Cash Counting Machines

I've used both the mixed denomination money counter and the money sorter types for over five years now, and they've been really stable and reliable.

If you're looking for a basic option, the plain bill counter (only counts the number of bills) is the most affordable, usually costing around $100-$200. This type is great if you just need to count a stack of bills without worrying about different denominations.

For a more advanced need, like getting a cash value of mixed denominations, I'd recommend the mixed denomination money counter. The one I've used, the Ribaostore's BC-40, has worked well for me. It's efficient and accurate, which is really important in my line of work.

HI
The old style Cummins JetScan machines are better than any of the new ones you see. Sometimes you can find one on Ebay. Keep the rollers clean and the machines are a workhorse. The new ones with image and counterfeit scanning often have many false positives when the bills are fine - most are cheaply made in China or Korea.
Roz, What model do you recommend, I've been procrastinating but now going to buy one, ebay shows alot of various models. Thank you Roz, I appreciate your insights.

I need to check my model at the wash. Any are fine as long as they have the features you want. You can get them with no pockets one pocket and two pocket (for sorting). More important is to run it and make certain it works as it can be hard to find a service tech. eBay often has them for sale, that is where I purchased mine for $75. Another place to check is your local bank as many banks are upgrading their old counters and will sell their older models for little money. Again just need to verify that it works. A little alcohol cleaning of the rollers and eyes goes a long way

Oops, just checked. Mine is the cummins 4098. The 4096 is the predecessor and my local cummins rep no longer works on them. I bought it used off ebay maybe five years ago. I did have to take it in for service once and it was about $200 to get it fixed. Whether that machine is worthwhile just depends on how many bills you get. I'm down to 2-3K per week. I'm spoiled now and I'll never do without a sorting counter of some sort while in the business.

It's ironic but collecting and counting money is one of my least favorite things to do at the wash.

I just had a Cummins rep tell me that they will only service units that were purchased from them new. Either he is lying, doesn't know better, or they changed their policy.

That's crazy if that's true. There are 3rd party repair companies too, but may have to ship machine to them, so not really feasible a lot of times. The cummins machines have been workhorses in our experience. We use jetscan for bills and jetsort for coins. Both have given little to no trouble

Currently, I'm looking at the Cummins Jetscan Ultra and the Kisan Newton-A.
Have no experience with Kisan, but we had originally bought another brand used, couldn't get parts or service, and didn't stay in good working condition for long. We went with all cummins after that. In total we have 4 bill counters and 1 jetsort all cummins

There are good, used cummins machines on ebay most of the time. A lot of banks use them and most banks get them regularly serviced, so you can usually get a good deal on a good, bank used unit.

I was happy to find this thread, since I've been looking for a new cash counting machine that specifically will not jam up with worn $1's. That is the main problem with the cheap Cassio I am currently using Can anyone recommend one that does not jam with old $1's? Thank you.

An old Cummins Jetscan that has been maintained. Much better than any of the new models that have too many sensors detectors and is very sensitive. Via FB marketplace or eBay. B

Are you saying that the old Cummins are better than the new Cummins?

Are they pretty simple to operate? Or do you have to be a tech wizard to use one?

Better than new models when it comes to old, worn, bent, and taped bills. Easy to use and keep clean.

I think this is what the currency handling industry considers "Fitness Sorting". Look for a model that has that feature. The one I'm considering is the Cummins Jetscan Ultra.

It is a brand new model and has a lot of features for the price. The brochure states that it weighs just under 40 lbs so I assume it has a lot of steel in it somewhere. Hopefully in the important places. I talked to a rep last week and I think he said it was only $2,450. I emailed him to ask what the warranty period is and if the service contract is required.

I did not state this correctly. Fitness sorting is a feature that removes the bills that are in poor shape so the nice ones can be loaded into a cash recycler or dispenser. If it has that feature I would assume it is a unit that jams less.

Depending on what you do they are simple but may require multiple steps to get the bills ready for deposit.

The first thing I do is run the bills in face mode. This sorts into two pockets depending on how they are faced. it does not count the bills at this point

After that, I count the bills using "mix face orient mode" which both counts the money and sorts into the two pockets depending on which way they are oriented. I record the totals.

I then use the strap mode to sort and strap the bills in their individual denomination, starting with ones, then fives, tens, and finally twenties.

Finally, for batches of bills too small to strap I go back to mix face orient mode and count them, strap then and right the total on the strap.

It sounds like a lot, but you could hand me a stack of 2K all mixed up and I could prepare a deposit in probably 15-20 minutes that is dead on every time.

This is a two pockets 4098

doesn't yall's bank count the bills? My wife usually counts our's , before we go to the bank. However, if she doesn't, I just take em in there & they do THEIR job!
