I've used both the mixed denomination money counter and the money sorter types for over five years now, and they've been really stable and reliable.

If you're looking for a basic option, the plain bill counter (only counts the number of bills) is the most affordable, usually costing around $100-$200. This type is great if you just need to count a stack of bills without worrying about different denominations.

For a more advanced need, like getting a cash value of mixed denominations, I'd recommend the mixed denomination money counter. The one I've used, the Ribaostore's BC-40, has worked well for me. It's efficient and accurate, which is really important in my line of work.

The old style Cummins JetScan machines are better than any of the new ones you see. Sometimes you can find one on Ebay. Keep the rollers clean and the machines are a workhorse. The new ones with image and counterfeit scanning often have many false positives when the bills are fine - most are cheaply made in China or Korea.
Roz, What model do you recommend, I've been procrastinating but now going to buy one, ebay shows alot of various models. Thank you Roz, I appreciate your insights.

I need to check my model at the wash. Any are fine as long as they have the features you want. You can get them with no pockets one pocket and two pocket (for sorting). More important is to run it and make certain it works as it can be hard to find a service tech. eBay often has them for sale, that is where I purchased mine for $75. Another place to check is your local bank as many banks are upgrading their old counters and will sell their older models for little money. Again just need to verify that it works. A little alcohol cleaning of the rollers and eyes goes a long way

Oops, just checked. Mine is the cummins 4098. The 4096 is the predecessor and my local cummins rep no longer works on them. I bought it used off ebay maybe five years ago. I did have to take it in for service once and it was about $200 to get it fixed. Whether that machine is worthwhile just depends on how many bills you get. I'm down to 2-3K per week. I'm spoiled now and I'll never do without a sorting counter of some sort while in the business.

It's ironic but collecting and counting money is one of my least favorite things to do at the wash.
