Recently started having issues with some Medeco Pluck locks in my changers. These are inside protected from the elements whereas no issues with the ones in the SS Vault doors.

First they wouldn't go in easily and I had to depress the bar on the side with my finger to get it to go in. Later, the key would not come out even if the lock was not in the housing. Had to tap the edge of the plug lock with a screwdriver or something to get the key out. . Tried lubricating and cleaning all sorts of ways. Finaly the little bar on the side of one fell out completely. Now, another has gone bad Luckily, out of the housing. Key will not make the side bar depress flush. It's not the key since it works fine in other locks.

Locks are about 7 years old and used about 2 times a week.

Am I doing something wrong?

Can I order more locks with the "Blind Code'" from any source like KR, Sonny's or Ra Lock, or does it have to be from a particular source?

You can try locally? There is even a medeco distributor in Birmingham so wherever you live there should be one. :)

I know I got some medeco keys from Jim Colemen and they average $30 a piece. :)

I buy 10 sets of Medeco plug locks at a time, all keyed alike. If you know who you bought the Medeco plug lock from and have the key number you have to go back to the company you bought the lock from to get a key or a replacement plug lock. I called RA-lock to get a replacement key made and they asked for the key number when I give her the key number she came back a minute or later and said I’d have to call XYZ to get a replacement key, they originally sold the plug lock and they are the only ones who can order a replacement key or plug lock. What do you mean by “Blind Code”?

For Randy :) link

I wouldn't get to excited with purchasing an expensive lock for the equipment room? But there are different theories of that subject. You could go with a cheaper LAI lock?

My medeco plug locks have lasted over 8 years outside and inside though.

There is a piece of paper packaged with the locks and keys that says "Blind code" it matches the metal tag stamped numbers with the keys. .
Sadly, no receipt so I will try Ra Lock. I only need locks, (Spares) no keys . I figured blind code meant it somehow matches up to a seperate key code as opposed to being able to cut a key directly from a code.

If you goto a good medeco locksmith they can tell you if they can cut the key or not. You can check out my link though on key types. But like IB said even if you have a master key you could probably get a plug rekeys to it.

Update - Give Ra Lock the code. (Don't recall where I got them from originaly.) Ra Lock calls back a few hours later and says Medeco won't give them the locks because the number is regitered to someone else. They tell me who and give me a phone number. I figure it's some other distributer. (I ddn't recognize the mname). Call the number and they tell me they don't sell locks, they are a lottery company.) Call Medeco and go thru the voice mail lottery and luckily get the person Ra Lock spoke with.

They confirm the number is with that other comapny adn I ask if that comapny supplies Sonny's, Kleen Rite or Coleman since those are the possible suppliers in addittion to Ra Lock I might have used. Luckily she says "Read me the # again, so I do. Either they or Ra Lock messed up the # when they communicated. They confirm it my # was assigned to Ra Lock. Call Ra Lock back. Yep, they messed up the number when they sent the e-mail. Ra Lock had it noted as assigned to Sonny's but they could send me locks.

All is well for now. If I could only figure out why these locks had issues???
