I intend to raise my self serve prices this year....

I raised prices over a year ago and plan on staying. I get both sides of the spectrum. How dare you charge so much for a SS wash. 2. You are the cheapest price in town how do you do it.

    Thoughts on other chemicals??

Blendco is a good chemical. It is on the expensive side though. I used to use it but have switched over to the KLeenrite/simoniz products from kleenrite. I buy a high PH powder from kleenrite and mix in a surfactant through a dual tip injector like blendco and get the same results for less than...

    Air compressor

I use Quincy or Ingersol Rand. For a car wash a single stage compressor is plenty since we rarely use over 100 psi. Never had a problem with any of my Quincy compressors and they have 25 years on them so far.

rough up stainless rails for wheel traction?

I had a old RYKO touchless unit that used inflateable tires and they were slipping on the stainless rail. I took a long strip of aluminum diamond plate and attached it to the rail surface. Never had a slipping problem again.

    Vac claws being stolen. Advice?

I used to offer the type like Randy uses and the plastic hose cuff. Seems people always wanted which ever one was not on the vac they pulled up to. Rather than move their car to a vac with their preferred hose end they would walk over and try to swap them but they always left one off. I have...

    Vac claws being stolen. Advice?

I bought a electric branding iron at a ranch store for under $100 with the letters I needed about 20 years ago after I had another car wash operator stealing my vac ends. NOw I brand all my foam brush heads, vac cuffs etc. as soon as they come in. It has really helped stop thefts.

Dryers blowing sealant back onto car, any way to stop it?

You might also try cutting back on your wax/sealant a little. You want to see beading but anything more is overkill IMO and makes it hard to get a good rinse.

Dryers blowing sealant back onto car, any way to stop it?

You are probably not getting the proper rinse. Has your spot free rinse pump reduced time or output. Try adding another rinse pass or slowing the last rinse down.

    Swivel locations

Swivel at the end of boom and at the gun for me. In the freeze states the boom swivel is the first place to freeze and they will start to leak no matter what brand I use.

    Coins in short supply....

I have always built a surplus of quarters but the frequency of taking them to the bank has slowed during covid. I get many groups coming with 10s and 20s to get quarters. Banks re calling me while they were closed asking me to bring them 1s and 5s.

The funny thing about owning a self serve is

I got a call last night from the police. Seems a lady came to wash her Jeep. WHile she was washing she suspects her passenger sitting inside rifled through her purse and stole one of her credit cards. They wanted to know if I had cameras that looked into the car and caught video of the theft. I...

Needing to replace old RYKO Voyager

I had a voyager that I converted over to the the foam a long time ago. I was the first to do it in fact. The problems with convert your VOyager over to foam is more extensive than just the brushes. Brushes are designed to turn at a higher speed than the foam so to do it right you would also need...

How is your volume YOY since April 1, 2020

Weather is always biggest factor for me in wash volumes. I agree with that people were bored during covid. We had a lot of government workers off here and they washed a lot of their toys during the covid lockdown.
