    Freight company blues

lil, I hope you are right. Maybe I jumped to a conclusion or read something out of context but now I notice that your links are saying "service not available". Hopefully, it is just a coincidence & a temporary outage & not a result of some change on their public access & open records policy...

    Freight company blues

lilb93, I went to the site ... I did not read all of the extensive legalese ... but it said something about it being against the law for anybody besides law enforcement to do a search??? Maybe one of you city slicker legal eagles can help this more rural guy out in reading between the lines a...

    Freight company blues

Mac, I hope you are able to stay on them & let us know how you eventually come out. I don't want to sound like a broken record ... but like I have said before ... a key concern in how small businesses do ... eventually having a large impact on the GDP of any country is "proper rule of law"...

wand was taped and it flew out and damaged car....what to do?

I still say that even with our cameras at the end of bay ... in areas where overhead doors are must ... water droplets could be a problem showing the finer detail of a rascal quickly taping the wand trigger.

    Stationary Object Damage Considerations

washme1, Since you have the same kind of basic polycarbonate Alaskans ... does anybody in your area stock the panel size you use? I am asking for the purpose of the possibility of a judge saying that the operator should have stocked his own so he would be able to mitigate a possible 10+ day...

    Stationary Object Damage Considerations

One thing its seems an operator should consider is the fact that I have been told very firmly by a local PD officer not that long ago "If you do not file a complaint or press charges (assisting?) after we go through all the trouble to ID & find the individual ... we will never help you again...

    Stationary Object Damage Considerations

Soapy & others, It seems like if the amount of damage is smaller than the operator's deductible, the choice is better to assist the local PD in making a "leaving the scene of the accident" charge if one has 100% proof video wise ... if that is what they did ... & never really came around for...

    Stationary Object Damage Considerations

Most of us who have been car wash operators for many years ... know the reality of drivers hitting our stationary objects that we need for our car wash. How many of us go to great lengths to have in storage such things as overhead door panels &/or other expensive items? Sometimes many years go...

    My heart is breaking

JM, It took courage for you to share ... & like you & others have said ... there is consolation that some good can come out of a very tough situation ... including the shedding light & a learning factor that Jon stated. God Bless you in this deep valley of your family's life. mike walsh...

wand was taped and it flew out and damaged car....what to do?

Just to add to the water droplet affecting for a not a clear enough image (from the in bay camera) for those of us where the overhead doors are a must: Maybe a sensor could automatically trigger the small windshield wiper along with full remote capability. It sure would be nice to hold the...

wand was taped and it flew out and damaged car....what to do?

Like others have said, it would be helpful to have video footage. The struggle ... especially with our closed doors during the winter is to keep the lens so it has a clear path without surface water droplets &/or some fogginess created from temperature differences in the air. We are tempted...

    Bill acceptor

txheat & others, If going new comes into the picture ... depending on your operation ... I think it is short sighted to not make sure that the bill acceptor has the capability of also taking $10s & $20s not just $1 & $5s. Considering the quantity of $10s & $20s in many of our acceptors for us...

Make sure your doors are operational or this happens

Hopefully, the driver will be person who has to pay for the damages & does not have some kind of excuse that gets him or her out of paying for "including valid downtime" caused by the person's actions. Us operators far enough north who need their doors in the closed position more often than...

Do outside bays do much business?

Sparkey, We had a bay with an 8 foot high concrete filled wall when we first built in 1968. We are glad 11 years later that we put a roof & doors on the entrance & exit of it. There are slack days where RVs & higher vehicles help mitigate the slowness. It has 11' wide by 13' high doors so we...

    Dog Wash Investment

Steve, How is the ventilation within the prefab buildings you are looking at? One of the reasons why we have been successful with our 2 room pet wash is the way the air flows through from one door to the next door & also the charcoal filter fan etc. "Breeze way" if you will. I am not going...

    Vac/Vending Dollar bills only

Just thinking out loud. There is a local amusement company & on most of their machines they have 2 coin acceptors wired in parallel. If one acceptor gets jammed with a bent coin ... the game machine is still pretty much just as usable saving downtime on let say a busy afternoon for them. My...

    Self Serve Manual Doors....

MDrost1, We are glad we replaced our extension spring doors with counterweight "strapeze" from Airlift. They made sense for us from a long term durability standpoint. We have had 6 of them since about 1998 so this is actual first hand experience. Some may argue that torsion springs are...

License Plate Partially Readable on Camera Footage?

Randy & others, I just thought about the time back in 1982 & I had just put in the latest & greatest camera system (with time lapse recording) at the time. A guy with a high profile delivery truck after washing in our truck & RV bay made no effort to make sure the door was up as he left & took...

License Plate Partially Readable on Camera Footage?

We sometimes can make out less than all six numbers &/or letters on a suspect's license plate. In the past the local PD have successfully done multiple searches trying to match the make & model of vehicle with the plate info. A bit like putting an incompleted puzzle together. We had a recent...

    Air compressor...single or two stage?

Wet Spot, If you have 3 phase in your equipment room ... you will be better off long term wise to go with a 3 phase Quincy rather than 1 phase. A good master electrician can help with the understanding of usually a better allocation of amperage that bigger items such as the Quincy 5 HP would...
