    floor heat

No pressure reading needed for my Raypak Rudy, Our Huron Valley Sales deicer system has never had any pressure that shows on its pressure gauge & its properly sized Taco Pump has always circulated the way it should. Mike Walsh of Bismarck, ND

Vac motor died. Can it be rebuilt?

Brushes broken in with half voltage? It seems like I read somewhere that new brushes are supposed to run at 1/2 voltage for 30 minutes to break them in properly. I have wired 2 in series to get the 1/2 voltage to each & sometimes do 2 at a time. If I am not sure if I gained anything or not...

    floor heat

Jimmy, Whale & others, There is a not too expensive way of know the flows of a pump in a more precise way than just paddle flow switches in line. Gerand ball valves are not too expensive & they have 2 ports on them to check with a meter. I have about 7 of those ball valves strategically...

    Steam in a cold bay

Since about 1991 we went with hot glycol in Trane unit heaters that we put in the bays. We have used photo cells --- when beam is broken by the fog it --- clears the air quickly with the warmed air. Cost of heating is a factor so just keeping the bay fog free & above freezing helps. Mike

Effect of kicking of a remote voice message to dumper.

Big Leo, Could you hear them? We have had a plain jane Talk a Phone 2 way intercom since 1982 that has helped us to stop someone from leaving a crashed into overhead door or from unnecessary coin box banging etc. When Bill P visited last fall, he glanced at the computer based portion of our...

    need a flatbed trailer

MikeV, Just before winter in October we needed to rent a trailer & even here in Bismarck - Mandan we had quite a selection of flatbeds (all sizes) available to rent. It ran us about 60 dollars for about a one day round trip (a few hundred miles) that we needed to make. It seems like if we...

Vacuum pricing & Vacuum Bonus Time

Bill ---- yaaah that too! :) Thank God for our Case 1840 Skidsteer! The price of diesel is once again getting to be a factor. We should have it serviced one of these years --- I suppose I will be in a state of shock on a repair cost that it might eventually need. Whale --- I think another...

Floor Heat-Timer or return line thermostat or both?

Turbo, We are using all three stats for the deicer return, slabstat, & outdoor air --- it has definitely been helpful now for about 20 years. Our main deicer pump does not run continuously by calendar days. It only runs when needed. One factor to consider on the overhead doors ---- the outer...

Vacuum pricing & Vacuum Bonus Time

Sequoia & others, We converted our vac coin mechs to Dixmor's last spring. When we did we wanted to encourage use of dollar coins so we are giving an extra minute for use of a dollar coin. If they put in 4 quarters reasonably quick it also gives them the bonus. No regrets. 50 cents gets...

    Floor heat leak

Ric, Diamond, & others, This might not be for everyone but I actually used R7 braided hi pressure hydraulic hose with the smallest bend radius that I could find for part of our deicer add on section & even a floor heat section. I got the idea from when I allowed a contractor with a local...

    CFL lights from China

Bill, Thanks for the "heads up" ---- my Home Depot "made in China" Compact Fluorescents specify their own bulbs --- I definitely will not be experimenting with other compact fluorescents in those same sockets. They are the 4 fixtures that I put in our new dog wash. Mike

Calling all former touchpad users & repair guys

Hopefully, there will someone with --- not being used --- interface boards with more than 8 & most likely 12 individual isolated outputs. It just needs to switch the momentary switches within the touchpad or individual momentary push button switches & allow a small amount of current to specific...

Calling all former touchpad users & repair guys

Does anyone know where I can locate any still functioning new or used 12 selection distribution boards for any brand of touchpads that they do not need anymore. Specialty Equipment Distribution boards are preferred but I see no reason why we can't adapt another brand such as a 12 position...

    Tips on Increasing RO Output

Bubbles-John, If you are using 115 VAC you may have enough wires for a 220 VAC pump. Then in the panel some available thinner breakers would solve any space problems. 20 Amp would run up to a 2 HP pump. This is if you have in enough reserve on your main entrance breaker. A good electrician...

    Tips on Increasing RO Output

Bubbles & my other friends on the forum, From "my school of hard knocks experience" perspective I would say that we need an improvement to our method of "madness". Bill --- I thought you said this forum was supposed to be "educational" for crying out loud! "Chasing cats down the freeway"...

    paint for auto bay

Glenn, It has been awhile since we have painted but the best we used was a water based 2 part epoxy from Columbia Paints ---- now owned by Sherwin Williams. Up that high is what we also did & made sense with our FRP up the first 8 feet similar to what you have in mind for the tile. You would...

How to calculate the amount of glycol in my floor heat?

Efficiency Consideration on Glycol Mix Sequoia - Duane, If it were mine, & I knew that the temperature never dropped below zero in our area I would dilute the glycol as much as possible because of the gain in efficiency. Most people are not aware that more glycol causes a loss of heat...

Spot Free Pump Short Cycling during Foam Brush

Floating neutral? Mep001 & hopefully some more understanding, No offense & I know Bubbles said that all is well now but ------ I have been told by an electronic engineer that if you measure 12 volts on each side that it means that the voltage is "floating" which is less desirable than being...

How to calculate the amount of glycol in my floor heat?

Duane, If it were mine I would look at the linear feet of tubing & calculate the volume by using my CAD program. It can also be done with a little math: inside area of a cross section of the tube times the inches will give you the volume which then can be converted to the ounces, quarts or...
