    Selling Used Cars

After a summer slump, people are buying our used cars again. It's time to buy more cars for inventory. This is real work and takes real time. Lots of times on private sales you come up against people with high expectations about their car's value and you need to put in a low (to them) offer...

    Crypto Pay Install

I'm finally getting my Crypto Pay install going and it's exciting. We installed the LED 6 Dixmor timers in the bays and they are nice! Bright red display and nice loud beeps for last minute alert. Plus display flashes when time gets low. Installing the swipers was tough at first because my...

    Powdered Soap; Long-term test

no secret I am trying and like: 1. Kleen Rite Super Kleen Powder. 2. Trans Mate Wonder wash TM057. I add some surfactant in when I mix. I use the metering tips but like the idea of a flow meter I can adjust. Cars look great; they look buffed, lots of them. May sound funny but it's true.

    website designs

I had mine built on Wordpress for short $. I pay a small fee ($100) per year for hosting. I can change and update the site myself very easily. Mine doesn't process any payments but I do take appointments for detailing thru the site and get some contacts/appts. booked thru the site on a...

    Powdered Soap; Long-term test

My wash has been experimenting for several months using a powdered soap in our automatic wash (touchfree). The results have been very positive and the cost savings significant. It may be something to try if you haven't already. I realize soap choice is individualistic and based upon location...

    How does Craigslist make money?

CL is so/so for me and the used cars I sell. Lots of flakes on there it seems. I have bought cars there, though, with some limited success.

New Flex Serve (Not So Easy)

You mentioned 'answering phone calls' a few times as something taking up your employees' time. Why? I can see an operation that includes a detail shop, oil change or similar requiring more than a few calls per day but how much time is really required on the phone at a flex-serve wash??? Can't...

    Proper wording of a sign?

When large vehicles enter my IBA, they sometimes go too far to the right and the wash arm impacts the right side mirror. How can I word a sign to let the customer know that if their right side is raised up 5" off the floor and they can't feel that they have ridden up atop my right side guide...

    Insurance

Mang in New York. Great rate. Insurance tip; get a new company to quote your policy. When they do this they will ask your current company for 'loss runs'. Once your current company gets the request they know you're shopping around. Once they know you're shopping around they sometimes...

    Where's Waxman?

Waxman here! Got away for a week in Cape Cod with my family. Awesome time; relaxed fully till about Thursday when business crept back into mind. Business has been decent; carwash is good, detail busy and used car sales decent but not great. Planning to install Cryptopay this week in 2 SS...

    MA 800 rejects all coins

I have a multi-coin MA 800 acceptor in my vac that rejects all coins. Took it apart; no coin jam. Found the 'rake' that sticks out to reject a coin never pulls in. Duct taped it down so vac remains available for the customer. But why would the rake stay 'out' and reject all coins? Green led...

    HP hose (protector)

I use old inner tubes and wire ties as hose protectors. The idea of a bigger rubber hose slit down its length then slid over and wire-tied is a decent option. You gotta go all 'Yankee Ingenuity' on it. I spend time frequently protecting against rub thru situations. Part of the magic.

    Scarify Bay Floors Too?

Painting the floors makes the shop look nicer and brighter. We are painting them blue, which provides better light reflection for detailing the cars. Speedee oil change down the street has blue floors and they look great. The paint we are using has a 4 day cure time before hot tires can drive...

    Succession Plan

Yes I am fine. I got the idea when I heard a story of a 'healthy' man in his 40's dropping dead only to have his wife struggle with the business afterward. He, of course, had no succession plan. Like I said I do not want to put too much of my energy into the plans but rather make it compact...

    Succession Plan

My Succession Plan is coming along. Basically it starts from the standpoint of 2 options; run the business 'as usual' or run business as preparation for sale. I have decided to devote some time to creating this plan but limiting the time spent. Some ACF members I plan to contact so that they...

    Stinkin' Vacs

I agree that the rubber clean out bins made by CR Hamel Mfg. are the best thing I bought for the vacs. They beat the pants off those silly vinyl thingys with the spring steel hoops! I think sucking up some scent is fine but you gotta douche the vacs out real good first.
