    Scarify Bay Floors Too?

Hi All  We are painting the floor in the detail shop next month. This involves renting a machine to scarify the concrete. Should I use the scarifier to scar up the carwash bay floors while I've got the machine rented? Not intending to paint the wash bays but rather for better...

Does This Sound Normal To Anyone ???? Feedback desperatly needed !

No financials? And you're considering giving him $100k just like that on a wash you've got to pour time and money into? This is a bad idea for you and you have gotten prudent free advice I strongly suggest you take. Run from this deal.

    Retail Space

We set up a small retail area in our waiting room recently. It is simple with a few shelves featuring our vinyl dressing, tire shine, window cleaner, some towels etc. All chems are in quart bottles (Trans Mate brand). We sell Collinite 476S paste wax in cans. The retail merchandise is an...

    Updates

Our carwash well is drilled but not yet plumbed; pump system is being configured based on depth, casing volume (storage) and yield. I am excited to get the well on-line and producing wash water! Used car sales are improving and we have chosen Volvo as our specialty. This is based on the...

    Generate Additional Revenues

have tried the idea. they are too cheap to pay, have an entitlement attitude and aren't reputable, imo. i'd rather make extra revenue selling used cars.

    What does everyone else do???

you could prosecute, but don't you have better things to do? people will abuse everything; towel dry, prep station, etc. if you are running unattended you gotta take it as it comes. you could always get a 'no trespass' order against hime, then bust him if he comes back.

Monorail was making these in the 1970’s.

Why not just install an older, used IBA Inverted L style? I can think of several that are available for short $ that would work just fine.

    best 2pass chemical

are you counting the application time as dwell time or is dwell (soak) started after the presoak is full applied to entire car?

    best 2pass chemical

I'm surprised you use a dwell that long. I think at 30 seconds most of my customers would be honking the horn or pulling out of the bay, thinking the equipment had malfunctioned. I have been using a powdered presoak with good results. I run 2 passes of high ph with 10 sec. dwell between the 2.

Gantry Style IBA verses Inverted L

Inverted L is best, IMO. Never had a gantry style but L keeps the bay more open-feeling and customers like it. Proper psi/volume, good nozzles, proper heat and soap, dwell time= clean car. Customers are scared of spinners. Ask Whale O Wash. He had NuStar Comets and when he switched to...

    Selling a wash

If cap rate=capture rate, as in what %age of traffic uses the wash per day, that (15%) seems awfully high to me. I'm in a rural area as well and based projections before opening (for financing purposes) at 3/10 % or .003. Isn't 4-5X Gross a sale price we all dream about, rather than a...

    Got to love them

Had a customer in my touchfree yesterday in a minivan. i looked in and he was detailing his drivers area of the van and had the sliding driver side door wide open. The machine had already completed the first presoak pass. I told him the door was open and he shut it just in time. UGH. Close...

    Solo Or Team Bottom-Line

Team processing keeps employees fresh to detail more cars per day. My teams switch off drivers/passenger sides so it is equal (ish). I could see how a solo detailer in a warm climate could make a decent living, but not in Northeast; little money in detailing 1/15~3/15.
