Time to prepare the floor heat boiler for the coming months. I have been using a slabstat, but I have read on the forum that this is not the most efficient way of going about it. I'm looking for a few things:

• What type of stat should I purchase?
• Do I need one for both my incoming and outgoing lines?
• What setpoints are used?
• What type of control thermostat should be used?
• Are there additional money saving options available?

I was about 30% more efficient last year by monitoring flame and making adjustments in reference to the weather. I would like to get another 20-30% worth of efficiency this year if I can replace the old style slabstat with the new aquastat.

I would also like some info on doing this. I was told that it would save me some money. Please explain your comments "monitoring flame and making adjustments in reference to the weather" I could use a 30% savings!

I went with a Goldline Independent Energy out of Rhode Island on mine with a thermistor probe. I think the ability to optimize the differential range is helpful. That was about 19 years ago that we did that.

I use at my home, that has radiant heat, a ratio-reset aquastat that senses the outdoor temp and the boiler water and adjusts the boiler to hotter temps when it get colder outside and cooler when it warms up. I believe it is a 1 and 1/2 to 1 reset.
I believe it would be helpful at the wash also but I have no experience with one at a wash maybe someone could chime in on this.
