Well our credit union has further closed down locations, services, and hours of operation since my previous post. They now only have a select few branches that we can make an appointment to deposit coins and there was only one appointment left this week at the branch that was closest. (only about a half hour away) Further more we tried to make a bill deposit yesterday evening at the ATM and the bill acceptor kept jamming up preventing us from making a deposit. As if accepting cash was not already a hassle.

The guy just called me back because after putting our appointment into the branch's schedule the branch called him to let him know that they are not accepting any coins (at any location) at this time.

Maybe it’s time to take credits cards only.
You could post signs saying banks are not accepting bills or quarters at this time so we have to temporally accept credit cards only.

I would only do cc for now if I had them, before the pandemic started I was in the process of installing cryptopay but figured I would wait until this is over, by process I mean I just got the worldpay account, For me I get more quarters than I need and since the bank is not taking quarters right now I would just use the cc, I think people would understand.

I used to gain a lot of quarters. When I installed a new face plate on my DRS changer in January I put on the decal showing I accept $20 bills, I've always accepted $20's just never advertised that I took them. Now I'm getting a lot more $20's and I'm only taking home about 40 quarters a week.

That could be an easy fix. We currently have the $20 switched off.

We never did overly discourage apartment house coin op washer user dwellers from giving us $20 & leaving us with fewer quarters to ever worry about depositing!

Although ... we are not sure exactly what will be the results ... when we make it so 100% of the coins given out are $1 coins vs less than half from our two 4 hopper Standard ChangeMakers that we currently do. Ideally, it would be as close to evened out as possible so hopefully we will not have to order too many in.

Many laundromat owners along with myself ... very much miss the days when we could order our $1 coins direct from the US Mint. Who (administration) was most to blame for that stopping???

With things so slow, I hate telling customers we're doing any change of policy. It's a lot easier to change policy when we're busy.

My bank took a $500 bag of quarters on Monday with no problem. We went the next day with a deposit of cash that we had been holding back on for a couple of weeks. They were very happy to see as they were almost out of $1 bills and were getting ready to call us to see if we had any they could get.

I scheduled an appointment with my Wells Fargo branch to come in and drop off bagged coins that they send off, and they called me to say they cancelled my appointment and just bring coins in as I usually do. I haven't gone by yet, but I'm curious if I need to call to be let in or if I just wave the bags over my head at the door.

The lobby at my Wells Fargo branch is open. But they only allow 2 or 3 people inside at a time. I deposited coins and bills no problem this week.

My bank is letting me come to the backdoor, take my qrtrs & count them for me. Wth?!! This is far easier than me counting them. It's awesome

Funny how the tables have turned, banks are now welcoming coins as are businesses as a form of payment to fight the coin shortage.

DPX22,

I agree. From our perspective, especially seeing our lightning fast hi speed Cummins sorter counter being so durable ... no repair calls required since we bought it back in 2003. Not to mention ... the reliable serial communication logging directly into a pre-set up database form we use with its communication module! That has been helpful for keeping our vending item category ... considering sales tax required specifically just on those items etc.

BTW when some coin jar at home people ... who are bringing in over $1000 of quarters with friendly even swap concern ... we count them right in front of him or her even though he or she say that they trust us!

US Bank still only allows people in lobby by appt only since it seems like about March. Burleigh County has had Covid-19 spiking higher than even Cass (Fargo) county. Not sure what US Bank is doing in its other locations. Like Well Fargo they tend to be in the "too big to fail category???"

I would switch banks but since the other banks said they would have to pass on their source bank charge ... we would have to pay for our coin orders worse than US Bank. The source bank is our located in our capitol city STATE OWNED BANK OF NORTH DAKOTA. People who care about the state owned bank because of its previous history etc tend to sometimes be vicious towards anyone who has "constructive criticism" for it. That includes both the sometimes socialist totalitarian leaning far left media & far right for that matter ... sometimes both political parties on this specific concern! It all hinges on the quality of the people most culpable for moderating the current leadership???

That is why when the concerned reporter called early this week it was a refreshing experience: https://www.carwashforum.com/thread...l-mainstream-press-about-coin-shortage.18609/

I forgot to share with her all the documents that support the almost 100% copper Covid-19 mitigating higher denomination coins' attribute!!!

If you have not done so it is time to put in credit cards and bill acceptors. Quarters have always been a pain to deal with and now with the "new normal" they are a colossal waste of time. I take credit cards, tokens, bills and quarters at my wash. Sundays are always a good day because the local laundromats clean my changers out of quarters. I take quarters to the bank maybe three times a year. I remember standing in line at the bank in the 90's with five gallon buckets of quarters every other day, I am grateful those days are gone. I do night deposits at my bank so no standing in line. Credit cards in my autos run around 70 percent and 60 percent in the self serve. I have a 3.00 start in my bays and I am always amazed when someone takes bills to the changer to get quarters and then stands there to put 12 quarters in the bay to start when they could just use the bill acceptor. Upgrade and make life easier, with covid I think every business will be forced to think about how they do business. Handling money is the part of this business I dislike the most, a necessary evil.
