My Mars Validator AE2412-U3E - 24V unit is malfunctioning. It accepts the bill but does not turn on timer. Do we replace or is there a company that fix these. If i replace it can i use other models because KR sell this unit for $339. I saw 2512 , 2601 , 2631 models on ebay. btw it is hookup to 1034 nonswipe timer.

Yes they are repairable. Before you send it in for repair try swapping it out with a validator from another bay to see if the wiring isn’t the problem, I don't see to many validators that take a bill and not give credit. Should you decide that you want to replace your validator, the validator you want to use is a AE2412 or a AE2612, you do not want a VN2512 or a VN2712 validator, they are made for the vending industry. The third number in the model number determines the type of bezel that is used on the validator, “1” would be a compact type bezel, the fourth number is the voltage, “2” would be 24 volts and a “1” would 110 volts. A “U” or a “D” in the model number determines if the validator is an Upstack or Downstack model and the last number determines the size of the bill box “3” would be a 300 note bill box.

txheat & others,

If going new comes into the picture ... depending on your operation ... I think it is short sighted to not make sure that the bill acceptor has the capability of also taking $10s & $20s not just $1 & $5s. Considering the quantity of $10s & $20s in many of our acceptors for us ... the 2600 series has made more sense & for the future ... than the 2400 series. http://www.aecosales.com/Library/Library_MEI/ae2400_datasheet_0409.pdf

We have customers with RVs & lots of dually large pickups at our 6 bay & a 2 stall dog wash ... so we could be the exception. When we start giving out our planned over 90% dollar coins from our changers ... it will be a plus in our opinion ... to not have as many $1s & probably significantly more $5s, $10s & even $20s ... not to mention less wear & tear on our bill acceptors. We find that our proven MicroCoin QLs acceptors have been less likely to jam etc also & less costly to maintain!

I don't know if there's a physical difference in the VN2512 validator vs the AE 2412, but the VN2512 will work and give coin pulses the same way. It requires a different harness from the MDB vending type as well as a $5 enable plug.

I've had the same exact issue in 2 of my vacs. Resetting the breaker fixes it for a few hours. Works fine in other vacs. Have you tried using it elsewhere?

Yes it is possible to use a VN2512 bill validator in bay box or vacuum. You need to use a special inhibit jumper plug along with the 24 volt harness. The only problem is you can’t change the pulse rate or the number of pulses per dollar, for that reason I don’t recommend using the VN2512. If you try to use a VN2702 validator in a coin box or vacuum, the smoke will come out and it will be ruined, they are MDB only.

Both the pulse rate and number of pulses per dollar can be set using the program note with the VN2512.

What did they want for the validator? $40 for a harness is a little on the high side. I wonder if it's a standard Mars harness or something special.

I've got a Mars validator coming today from Texas that the car wash owner tried to fix himself, my supplier in Texas said it's a real mess. I think the word he used was "challenge"
