Cryptopay “end charge button” bypass

Has anyone been able to tie into the flashing green button on their Cryptopay swipers for count up sites? All my locations are equipped with count up Cryptopay attached to Ginsan push button meter plates. As a result, I have a number of customers push the “stop” button when they’re done using the wash instead of the “flashing green button” on the swiper. Of course, since the bay function turns off, they think the charges ended and drive away. Next thing I get is a 1 star review online for overcharge or an angry call to my complaint line. All the signs posted in the world doesn’t change this either. Question is, has anyone been able to tie into the Cryptopay end charge button on the swiper and tie it into the stop button or dial located on the meter plate to also work as a end charge button? You can see on my meter plate the stop button in the upper right and the multiple notices in and under the swiper to end charges. People just never read. 52649FB7-E06C-4204-B4A7-1194C269FD2B.jpeg

I know Mep was able to do so. I have the same issue. Your on door signs are even better than mine, but I've been ok just telling customers to push the correct button when they call. Rarely get a call about being charged the $15, it's always the button or about a preauth. I put black label tape over the word stop, but customers took them off saying that I was trying to rip them off by not letting stop charges lol.

I was thinking about tape over the stop button all together or just disconnecting it, but all that would do is frustrate customers more I’m sure. I had one customer take a hammer to the swiper and completely break it off the meter plate cause they couldn’t stop their charges by pushing the stop button even with the green flashing button right in front of their face. This is the glaring problem with the Cryptopay swiper button not being so prominent. Especially with count up.

I've done it with a Hamilton D.A.N. system by using a programmable relay, but it was with a rotary switch. The relay had each output from the switch going in and would wait for a point when no output from the switch was sent, where after 3 seconds it would close the "STOP" button circuit. It should be much more easily doable with the GinSan door by using a DPDT relay on the button and routing the two different leads through it, one back to the control board and one to close the button circuit on the swiper. Just fire off the relay with 24VAC. The only "tricky" part would be opening up the Cryptopay swiper unit and soldering wires to the button, which I've done for someone - wasn't difficult at all but it will most likely void the warranty.

MAybe a sticker that look s like a stop sign and an arrow pointing to the swiper button?

We have similar issues with about 60-70 count up swipers in use both bays and vacs. The "STOP" sticker from the old rotary switch labels fits nicely on the swiper with a little but if cutting. We think it has helped with the problem. 15840219206453133223596244655609.jpg

Here's a couple thoughts I have.


First off, why the hell is the "STOP" button green!!! That means "GO" where I come from.

The "STOP" position on the rotary switch should be labeled "OFF" and should NOT look like a stop sign. It should also have lettering on a white background. My friend Dakota Hoskins even added that the lettering should be in a softer color than red, maybe light blue or green. I think that's a great idea as well. Or maybe even leave it blank.

I put some of the blame on these aftermarket CC companies. This stop button issue has been there since day one. I know they can't make the customer push the button, any more than we can, but they could add a set of terminals so we could easily access the stop circuit. After that, we could use the stop position on the bay box to attach a time-delay relay and toggle "STOP" after it's been in the "OFF" position for 10-15-30 seconds or whatever.

I've had people come to me saying they pressed "STOP" and the CC kept counting up. They were pressing "STOP" on the decal for the rotary switch. The flashing red button was clearly labeled and next to the instructions saying to press the flashing red button to end charges.

I agree that labeling "OFF" at the switch would help.

I know I'm out of step with most operators who post on this subject, but I set mine up as count down and I'm glad I did. I'm $3.00 cash for 5 minutes and $5.00 CC for 8 min 20 sec. Same price per dollar. Customers are used to putting in a fixed amount of money for a fixed amount of time. They don't have to be retrained to use the card.

In my experience they don't need retraining. They want to swipe just once and wash as long as they like, and you want them to because they won't let time run out and dry-brush or bucket wash. The only upside I see with count-down is that it will work with any timer, so your installation costs will be lower.

That is what I mean by retraining. Sometimes the answer can be right in front of some one but they can't see it. I can attest to that with some gas pumps that are cluttered with signage.
My count down system works real well for me. When they swipe their card I get $5.00 and they get over 8 minutes to leisurely wash the car. If they aren't done by then, they can push the button and add 50 seconds. Some have to do that, but not many.
I doubt any one bucket washes after spending $5.00.

Any Re Training pays back huge dividends. _ No different than a customer paying t the pump with a credit card and pumping until they stop.

Those who have posted the pics of their meterbox doors, where did you get those customer decals made? Those are both very nice. I just ordered a catalog from Ahearns to look into having some made.

What I have noticed on some of my Cryptopay swipers is that the button needs to be pressed several times sometimes to register and stop the charges.

I was having decals made by STAGraphics, but the last time I ordered they said they will no longer do the matte Lexan finish, only the gloss Lexan. None of the people I've been getting decals for want the slick, glossy ones.

Someone posted the replacement buttons for the swipers here.

I’m not sure who printed my decals as I worked with Ginsan to design them when I ordered to meter plates. I wouldn’t be shocked if they work with Ahearn though. All of my other signage for all my Mark VII IBA’s comes from Ahearn when I’m supplies them through Mark VII. They do good work.

Aalso, as far as your stop button needing many pushes at times to end charges, you’re not alone. This has been a sporadic problem for me in a number of swipers. They work great then they don’t. As a result, we test often with attendant cards.

I also have the occasional person that forgets to press stop on the cc swiped. I’m also baffled as to why the button is green!?? So I made a sticker that says Stop and has an arrow pointing to it. My main problem has been people waiting for the meter to reach $2.25 ( 4 minutes) only to press stop and then complain that the wash never started...
The count up instructions that kleenrite carries don’t mention $ count up only time count up so people get confused. I had to place a laminated sign over it and it’s helped.

Someone called me today and asked for help with adding a large button to end credit card charges. He's been count-down for years with his Cryptopay but wants to go count up. I had tried to talk him into using a programmable relay to end the charges when "STOP" on the switch is selected, but he wants to try a larger button first. I'll keep you posted.

I don't use the word PUSH or PRESS on the swiper button.. I use "TAP" to end charges.. hardly ever a problem..
