You need the D.A.N. to process high-speed, and you also need high-speed internet for the D.A.N. The hot-spot should work with the D.A.N. but it does regular updates which will chew up your data very quickly.

I don't notice a long delay in processing via dial-up with a GoldLine, maybe ten seconds of waiting after the unit says "Please wait while your transaction is processed." With it run through a D.A.N. it cuts off that message, so you're saving maybe 12-13 seconds.

I wonder about adding Cryptopay to my GoldLine... If that isn't an option, because of DAN's huge upfront cost, then I wonder about switching paystations & going to WSIIs?

You can add Cryptopay to your GoldLine. You won't need the D.A.N.

Why is dial-up a problem? With either Cryptopay or a D.A.N. it will increase your merchant fees.

I would go with the Cryptopay for your Goldline that would be your overall least expensive option. To do that though you’re going to have to remove the large graphic display that is installed on your Goldline plus and put in a Hamilton display kit to install the smaller display. You’ll also have to change the settings on the controller when you change the display types.

You might consider looking at NAYAX credit card system. Each unit has a Verizon or ATT sim for communication and is PCI compliant (swipe or use the chip). I am trying the unit with my vending machine and may try in another wash I may renovate. The technology is interesting and widely used for vending industry, not heavily marketed to car wash industry but I suspect that may change as the tech looks very interesting. Installation took me 10 minutes.

As of today the NAYAX and USA Technologies credit card system used on vending machines won’t work on a ACW entry system because of the multiple price points. I heard a few months ago of someone who was trying to build an interface so the NAYAX and USA Technologies credit card systems could be used on an ACW. It is possible to install a NAYAX and USA Technologies credit card system on a bill changer.

Randy & others,

If someone wants to use NAYAX somehow legally on a bill or token changer ... it seems like it would be a colossal mistake. IMHO based on around 7 years of owning our own in house ATM & on my fellow laundromat owners experience sharing ... an ATM with coin hoppers would be something worthwhile to get united behind lobbying wise. Especially younger operators who need to structure their business in a sustainable & profitable long term way.

Randy & others,

That kind of external interfacing possibly would require a tiny add'l PCB with an embedded logic programmer who is proficient at Finite State Machine Programming. Maybe a freelance programmer from Fiverr or elsewhere ... who would possibly guarantee their work?

According to Harry at NAYAX the technology is currently used by some American Changer models. He was not certain if it would work with Hamilton which I was inquiring about, it depends on the technology used to communicate within the changer (MDB, pulse, or other). ACW which we replaced is fairly old technology so my guess is no, however their tech support is very helpful (I worked with Matt to resolve a minor SIM card issue). Call their main number and select option for tech support. I left my name and message instead of holding and they called back in a timely manner.

The newer touchscreen Nayax model even works with an APP and the units are priced below the cryptopay swiper cost plus they are PCI compliant. Other added benefits appear to be lower fees than cryptopay (which we use in the bays) and no need for internet service since each unit uses cell to communicate.

I have no skin in the game, no connection to them, just impressed with the technology.

.
Since it uses an ATT SIM aren't there monthly charges for each unit from ATT?

Yes. $10 per unit per month so if you have a lot of units the cost is a wash. At $165/mo for internet you can calculate the break even.

Is anyone actually using NAYAX and what are the all in fees? I have a feeling they end up to be more than Cryptopay.

I was told 2.5% plus 10 cents per transaction. For the vending machine device there is a monthly service fee ($7.95 or $9.99 per month). The $9.99 service fee gets you data analytics such as remote inventory management, $7.95 is the basic level. No idea if there is a monthly service fee for other types of machines like meter boxes or changers. They do not bundle transactions like cryptopay. Vending is 5.95%, not certain why there is a difference.

I too am curious to hear from someone who is using the nayax credit card device as the technology seems to be better than cryptopay and they offer gift cards as well as an APP. Cryptopay is easy to use and install, website is also easy, but unfortunately not very customer responsive. I think there is a meter box manufacturer who has integrated the nayax with their box however you need to ask them for the brand name - they showed me a pic from a trade show. Maybe IDX?

If its "IDX" I would STAY AWAY!! Run fast. My buddy paid through the nose for an IDX system about 5 years ago. He hates it. Nothing but problems, has to call IDX anytime he wants to make a change on a unit or pricing. Has had 8 readers break. He wants to change to Cryptopay, but is having a hard time with all the $$$ he paid for the IDX to just ****can it. He will sell it CHEAP to anyone that wants it.
I have had cryptopay for 5-6 years and I really like it

It's not "illegal" to use a credit card accepting system on a bill changer. "Lobbying" will not help because it's "prohibited" by the credit card companies. They make their own "rules" and can easily tell us end users to "go pound sand" if we don't like it. I'm sure they have their "valid reasons."

Most of the operators here dispense tokens from there changers that have a credit card reader on the front. A few of the arcade/game stores dispense quarters from the credit card changers. They said they’d stop when someone complained, that hasn’t happened in the 4 or 5 years they been installed.

I was referring to lobbying the ATM industry to include coin hoppers in the USA instead of just an ATM canister or 2 canisters giving out 1 or 2 different denominations of paper bills. If the ATM gave out coins ... it would make us & our customers less dependent on our bill changers. ATMs for over 10 years now have been proving themselves to be a great fit for most laundromats. With the right kind of built in the concrete wall setup ... I see no reason why it can't be a great fit for some car washes also. Convenience store-gas-car washes have had them installed for decades now.

I was simply pointing out the practicality of a single high denomination coin along with a denomination of paper bills could be a good fit for some of us. If within the USA too many of us end ATM owners have a blind eye when it comes to that practicality ... then the manufacturers would tend to shy away in this country vs what they are doing in other more coin friendly countries.

My "All In" internet runs about $115.00 / mo but I need it for the cameras anyway.

Having a changer take a credit card and dispense money would have to be treated like a cash advance.

So a bit like the less $100 cash limit customers can get cash during their credit card use at various retailers such as Walmart, Sam's Club, Staples, Best Buy & others? The limits vary but the $100 seems to be the maximum & applies at Walmart.

Another option would be to run a surcharge free ATM ... not my choice ... but it seems a better choice than a Change Machine taking credit cards & dispensing cash.

There are lots of customers who put their PCI compliant ATM card in our ATM & check their balance for no charge including a paper receipt if they choose. So it really can be a service that customers appreciate ... especially since some more cash friendly smaller banks & credit unions cover 100% surcharges automatically with no red tape whatsoever. Some parts of the country ... this could vary. It is true for our more rural area!

An ATM if done correctly can be a helpful revenue stream that can be more fail safe for us owners than most of the change machines IMO.
