Where are you guys getting your water, out of a farm pond full of cattle? I never had clogged screens, with the exception of resin from a malfunctioning water softener. Are you guys using iron/steel fittings? I never used anything but brass, PVC, or stainless and didn't have any issues at all.

The one time I had issues was getting clogged with some soft green stuff out of the water heater.

I’m a little leery of using the plastic strainers on the water supply. I’ve seen them develop stress cracks and have the bowl blow off. We use a brass DEMA “Y” strainer https://www.kleen-ritecorp.com/p-1653-dema-strainer-y-type-line-strainer-1-2.aspx and clean it out about every 6 months, there isn’t much of anything inside of it. There’s nothing wrong with the plastic strainers, I just feel better with a brass “Y” strainer. We have one water feed supplying water to 3 of our Hydrominders on the chemical tank.

That's why I put a 1" whole house filter on the line. As long as it doesn't freeze, they don't fail. We had one wash where the distribution tube in one of the softeners split - you can imagine the many hours of cleaning resin and gravel out of the pumps and valves it saved me.

Same here, but no issues with the heavy plastic Banjo Strainers.
