The only issue I've ever had with it was when I had curly hoses on the foam guns...I'd get the occasional freeze up because of the length of curly hose...But after switching to straight 3/8" hose like I have on FB, I've never had a freeze up since...This winter, as bad as its been, I may have used 20 gallons of washer fluid to protect 8 hoses...That's about $30-$35 worth of WF...I'd hate to see the cost of sewage and water to protect the same hoses...Especially as cold as its been.
As far as having issues with the PLR's or any other mechanical issue...Not a single issue...Its one of those things I set and forget. I don't make adjustments or have to tweak it...In the fall, I turn it on, run a cycle through it to make sure everything works, and turn it off sometime in March or April....Its one of those many things I've implemented that helps control operating costs and allows me to be the most cost competitive Wash around. I can charge less and make more than the wash that's paying out the A$$ in water and sewage to keep from freezing up. Or stay open during extreme cold when other washes shut down...Its very evident I gain customers when other washes are shut down and I'm open...I get people that wash down to and below zero....You get what you put into it...

If you look at the picture I posted, those are the same valves I used. The Female is the inlet in my installation. Male is the outlet. I purchased extra ones to have on hand and looked to see if there was a flow direction stamped on it. There is none. KR may be right with these, it might not make any difference. There is about a 3/16" hole in each end. The needle is in the middle.
I have one of those on hand and didn't see any direction stamped on it either, but noticed one hole was at the top while the other was at the bottom, so I wondered. I needed them shipped today, so I just changed my order to the F*F. They cost more for some reason and I also have to use a nipple now.

I just looked at one, and the female end would be the inlet if you have the needle acting properly as a stopper. I've tried them both ways and can't tell any difference.
