Vacuum motors

If I have a vac motor go bad, should I replace the other motors on that same vac? Of so, why?
If not, what's the reason...?

Depends, if you like replacing motors a lot, wait until the second one fails. I'd replace the one and change the brushes in the other.

If you change the brushes on a schedule to avoid them ever wearing completely down, you'll replace a lot fewer motors.

I do not replace the second. I find they are like light bulbs. Put 2 identical ones in a fixture and one may go out. I replace it and the other may still last a long time. (My non scientific observation.)

I always replace in pairs and write the date on the motors when I do. I then install new brushes in each of the old ones if both are in good shape otherwise. For a $2 it is not worth it to me to take the whole upper assembly apart to replace the other motor a few weeks down the line. Plus vacs are the highest % profit that you have.

I replace my vac motor brushes every August so I’m not out working on the vacuums in the bad weather in the winter. When I have a vac motor go bad, it’s not very often I only replace the bad one. When you replace a bad vac motor you should always use the same brand motor as the other motor that's installed, so they are paired, you should never mix motors.

Is it the motor or the brushes that went bad? As mentioned above already I find more often its just brushes that need to be changed. Once inside there for one we always check the other(s). I can't remember when the last time I change a motor was.....it has always been the brushes

Not sure what motors you are using but there is really no need to change both. Even the cheap kr brand will last forever.

There are several reasons to change both at once. If I have one fail not due to worn brushes, I change both and replace the brushes in the one that was still working. When I have a used pair of the same exact kind with new brushes I put them together in another vac. The vac will whine and hum if the motors aren't matched.

The "cheap kr" ones don't last anywhere near forever even if you change the brushes routinely. They're a decent motor for the price but I've never seen a motor go through brushes like they do. The brushes in the Domel motors I use last at least five times longer.

I use fragramatic super turbo motors i use 1 motor in each vaccum and cover the other hole. The kleenrite ones do last forever if you take care of your vacs and dont have alot of idiots sucking up water and have screens below your motor. I may not have been doing this as long as you mep and you are very knowledgeable, but i have alot of knowledge that YOU DO NOT NEED TO CHANGE BOTH. I have Some kllenrite motors at 1 of my loactions thats going on 2 years never changed either motor. So if i can pay $26. And get at least a year out of one motor im pretty darn happy. NEVER WILL I CHANGE BOTH MOTORS if any of my bacs habe 2 or 3. 1 vac motor i have no chouce lol.

I never said you need to change both. I said there are reasons to, and why I do.

There are reasons to wash your hands after using the bathroom, but I know people who don't.

Looking to increase the performance of my vacuums, I tried replace the 2 KR vac motors in my Fragmatics Combo vacs with 2 turbo vac motors from Fragmatics. Inches of water vacuum increased from 80 to 105. I'm satisfied.
