    Disc locks

Never use a spray silicone in a lock. Get some graphite to use a lubricant. I would take some alcohol and clean the locks real good and let them dry. The spray in some graphite. That will usually do the trick. I have never had a problem with the abus locks.

STEAM VAPOR CLEANING - Carwashing and Detailing Pros & Cons

I don't think the steamer would be a better approach for cleaning the walls compared acids. After reading about how many germs reside in a car interior thought the steamer is perfect. A good blast of 285 degree steam kills germs instantly. Steering wheels are 9 times more germy than a public...

A recent study by Queen Mary University in London showed that a car steering wheel is 9 times dirtier than a public toilet seat. A typical steering wheel has over 700 different kind of germs per square inch on it. A public toilet seat is around 80. The study further showed that only 1/3 of...

I found that the prices for the Venetian dropped prices on rooms now compared to the ICA rserved price. Getting a room for $60 less than the ICA rate and they are upgrading it also. Allegiant flight is only $58 this year.

    trade shows

The ICA show will be next week and I am looking forward to it. Even though this has been a tough year weather and sales wise I think it is an investment in time and money that should be made. The education availible might give me a couple of ideas to help strengthen my washes. I have never gone...

STEAM VAPOR CLEANING - Carwashing and Detailing Pros & Cons

I tried one of the cheap steamers at first. They are slow and would not keep up. I got a good industrial steamer and it made all the difference. It can supply a constant supply of steam at a higher temperature and pressure. The cost $1000 but was worth it.

    Forum Party May 3rd

I took Randy out to a special prime rib spot I know in Vegas once. They brought him out the medium cut and I don't think he made it through 1/2 of it. He was so full he would not even try the strawberry short cake dessert that is the size of the average birthday cake.

    regional weather factors.

Another rainy day here so I took some time and figured up some weather factors at various US locations for the last 5 years. It would be interesting to know if the weather factor worked for other operators like it does for me. Tacoma Wa. 2010 =1.69 , 2009=2.65, 2008=1.49, 2007=1.94,2006=2.75...

    Weather Factor

A few years back I come up with a way of tracking weather in my ZIP code and giving a numerical number to each month based on a 1 to 10 range. I found I could get all the historical data I needed at a website called weather underground.com. I go to the main page and click on the local section...

Quiet Air Compressor for Presoak injection-

A few easy ways to have a quiet compressor. Buy a good industrial compressor like a Quincy, Ingersol Rand etc not a cheap home depot type of unit. The better compressors run quieter. If you plumb the air intake to bring air in from the outside of the equipment room most of the noise will end up...

    rinse tank fill valve

I followed Pats advise on fill valve solenoids with a twist. I actually use one solenoid per bay wired into the motor contactor. They are wired off a common manifold so each will provide water to the tanks seperatly. I was leary of one solenoid failing on a busy day and not letting the tanks...

Last year I signed up for a energy saving program with the local utility company. They converted over all of my lights to new energy efficient T5s, T8s and CFLs. Last night I opened the local paper and found an ad featuring one of my washes. It had a big color picture of the wash and showed that...

    Cleaning wheels

I have always put a prescrub bucket out in front of the automatics with a small wheel wizard brush. The people who love clean wheels will get out of their cars and do their own wheels and tires while they are waiting for the car in the bay to get done. It always worked for me.

    Credit card reporting

I have always made a line item in my accounts for CC sales. I take the monthly bank statement and subtract out the deposits I made in person and just make one entry per month for the entire CC deposits for that month. I also use one line item to deduct the CC fees. It is really not that hard to do.

    Gloss Options

My vinyl dressing can be used as it comes for a shiny finish. For a satin finish dilute it with water at 3 parts water and 1 part dressing. For flat I use 4 parts water. Most people like the satin finish which is closed to what it looks like new. No one seems to want a shiny finish anymore.
