    Sudden Acceleration

An interesting article on PCC website yesterday about one guy who says the Jeep acceleration problem is caused by all the motors in a carwash creating interference with the drive by wire sensors. Not sure I agree with it but it is something to think about.

    Best wire splice method?

For most applications I like to use small "pill connectors" used on phone wire wire connections. You can get them at Home depot and most electrical supply houses. Insert the wires into the 2 holes and crimp the connection down. They are filled with dielectric grease and the connection is water...

$47 for the dulmeier model seems like a great deal. It even has a hinged bottom for easy trash removal.

Humbled By 1 Week of Downtime!

Physical location of the site often determiines how long it will take to make a repair. You only learn with experience which propietary parts you really need to carry from the factory. It is pretty hard to get parts quick when a distributor is over 300 miles away. If you live in a small town...

    Wash gear Vs. Wash Card

I agree with HCCW take on credit card readers. I use the older wash card systems at my washes that were pre credit card capable. Systems have been great and very reliable. I originally purchased the wash card system to offer annual passes and fleet cards. The big draw back was that each location...

    Trash Cans

I think that Kleenrite sent me a flyer last week on the trash can you are asking about. They are on special in Febuary.

    Good Help?

IMO now is a great time to buy new equipment. I have seen prices running almost half of what they did 2 years ago. The car wash companies are very hungry right now. Try Kleenrite and Dultmeier sales for prices as well as the big guys. I would get all the bids you could in this tough market.

    Gearbox (reducer) Questions

When I had to replace bearings I always bought stainless steel marine bearings. They were a little more than the standard bearing but they never failed. It is such a pain to replace bearings so I paid the extra for marine bearings so I did not have to ever do it again.

    Gearbox (reducer) Questions

Take some emory cloth and clean the shaft up first. When I had track mounted machines I had to remove many bearings. A good 2 or 3 jaw gear puller is a must. Get the size you need for your situation and put it to work. If you can get it off the machine and take it to a machine shop it is much...

    Cheap air compressors

Air compressor companies make different grades of compressors. If you get the industrial version of Ingersol Rand you will have a good compressor. Be sure to buy at least a 2 stage compressor. I prefer Qunicy industrial comporssors.

    ACW IV steals TokenNotes

Check the programing of the acw to see if it is set on single credit mode or multiple credit mode. In single credit mode for token notes it will give credit for the first token note then it will just collect all others after that if a wash has not been used.

    Car Wash Values

I recently had one of my washes appraised and wanted to pass on some info to the group. There were no wash sales in my area for years to compare with so income and cost of building were used for 2 of the 3 normal methods. The appraiser used a appraisal industry book to determine build...

    IBA door problems

If your doors are getting ice on them it is changing the weight of the door so your operator is having to work much harder to lift the door. I have radiant heaters in all the auto bays and that helps alot. For the door freezing to the floor you have a few choices. 1. they make a rubber...

    One of the worst YEARS!

I have been working on a way to follow year to year sales and relate them to the weather. I found a site called weather underground that lets me do this. ON the website you can get a calendar brought up for every month of every year based on your zip code. The map gives a day by day weather...

One of My Worst Days In The Car Wash Business

I always remeber years ago when my father, a self employed businessman, heard a similar complaint. WHen they said they would tell all their friends not to use his business he said "thanks, if they are anything like you I don't want their business." For me it was words to live by.

Time to open up shop (detail shop that is)...

From the research I have done on detailing most experts say you should shoot for 30 to 35% labor costs. This being said most detail shops seem to be paying around 50% for labor.

Is this possibly the "New" thing that will turn the SS industry around?

This is not really a new concept. In Canada they have several indoor self service car washes that work like this. You pull into a large building and get a ticket with a time stamp. Then you are free to use the facility as long as you want. When leaving you take the time stamp ( similar to what...

    Ryko foamers

Most times if the screws that hold the plasic covers are seized you will have to grind the head of the screw off.
