Are self service car washes going extinct ?

I am in a somewhat unique position in that I have an 8 Bay SS and Tunnel on the same property. There is a market for both. Fortunately some of the same labor can maintain the Tunnel SS. Don't know that I would be likely to do an SS as a stand alone anywhere. There is another operator several...

    Tankless Water heater.

If I understand how they work the unit may reduce volume to reach whatever temp you want to achieve. So, having a higher temp is less flow meaning I need to mix in more cold to get enough flow. So, is it a zero sum gain? Higher temp less flow mix in more cold, or lower temp more flow mix in less...

Super high merchant rate: Cryptopay on vacs and vending

Wash operators who consider CC Fees insane should be thankful they are not a gasoline retailer. I'll use round numbers gas is a little cheaper than this now but sometimes it's higher. All in CC cost is about 3.5%. On a gallon of gas gross margin my be 40 cents. So if a gallon of gas is $3.00...

Are self service car washes going extinct ?

The cost of owning real estate in many markets will affect viability. 2 local SS were razed by the same operator and made into EE's . A third has the long term lease expiring we will see what happens. Good news is that will leave me with one (albeit top notch competitor) SS competitor...

Interesting. It's $279 without Blower and $229 with the blower. Did you get the blower?

Super high merchant rate: Cryptopay on vacs and vending

I had no way of determining actual data for this so what I did was add CC to half the bays. Most places have some that are busier than others usually nearest the entrance. After a few months i decided to do the rest of the bays and now have done 4 vacuums. I think the biggest game changer is...

Super high merchant rate: Cryptopay on vacs and vending

Since my base tunnel wash is $3.50 there aren't really a lot of "Large Ticket" swipes. My Vacuum swipe is a minimum $2.00 and bays minimum $2.50.

Super high merchant rate: Cryptopay on vacs and vending

    Last months statement. (First Data) - Tunnel $7729.75. Bays / Vacs $3000.25 . Total $10,730.00 fees $630.01 = 5.87%.

Super high merchant rate: Cryptopay on vacs and vending

I use first Data as well. My SS Bays and Tunnel (EE with $3.50 Base Wash) run 5.5% / Month.

    Worldpay/IQ/cryptopay problems

Yep, saves a lot of time and builds goodwill. Also seldom happens. Just give them cash and have them sign a receipt in cse they also try to kick it back to the credit card company.

    Hydrominder Routine Maintenance

I would order bunch of Clear Bowl spares. Have had plenty fail over the years, but they were in Combo Vacs r the tunnel and subject to wide temp swings. I now use a black think it's called "Banjo" type strainer. Never had one fail.

    Tankless Water heater.

There is a digital readout on mine that says 120 degrees. Is that the "Set Point" the plumber set? Or just something else?

    Tankless Water heater.

I thought about this since other locations, tunnels and SS have the typical Boiler, Tank circulating pump system. Some tankless now have circulating valves built in so you could plumb a return line, but IMO it's not needed. The tank less is basically instant, so I don't see the difference in...

    Hydrominder Routine Maintenance

PM for Hydrominders same as for Vacuum Motors and Bay Cat Pumps - None. Problems addressed as they occur. Once did away with factory washer / strainers. Crud got in Diaphragms and they kept running. Now use a Strainer on line feeding units and Factory strainer. Took me too many years...

    Tankless Water heater.

A little confused as to cause and effect. The above makes it look like you can set for higher temp and flow will drop. I figured temp was set and simply dropped if flow increased. Which is it?

    Tankless Water heater.

When it comes to equipment and specs I figure they all lie (it's for some "Optimal" condition.) You just have to figure how much. FWIW after the plumber left I got a call that we were running out of water. Seems my guy didn't note the mixing valve which allows cold water to enter the hot...

    Tankless Water heater.

A little confused by your specs since these seem to be rated at X GPM at a certain temp rise. rise. Here a 199K Takagi rated at 9.5 GPM for a 40 degree rise and 9.5 looks like max flow...
