D&S Boom, 5 years old, Broke

Since someone else bumped this eleven year old thread... They break and fall because they don't gusset the welds. Coleman also attaches their spindle shaft to a flat plate, and even with gusset pieces they still break, but they don't just fall. One of the washes I look after has had two D&S...

    HydroMinder vs MagikMinder

Hydrominders come with a 1/2" hose. Magikminder appears to be a Hydrominder with a red cap over the magnet instead of black, otherwise looks identical. The image of the valve on their site appears to have a 1/2" hose, but they may have models with a 1/4" hose.

    Issues with a new SecureCoin

They're definitely installed correctly. When there's a jam they bang on it until the bar works its way up and unhooks, then they continue banging and prying until they pop all the plastic off the frame. I had a timer go bad a few days ago and they beat the door to the point the door around the...

The last time I had a good laugh while at my self serve I was ____________________________________________________

You can get custom printed T-shirts really cheap now. The hard part is finding a decent quality shirt that hold up for more than a couple washes and still fits properly.

Can't believe this stupidity... Yes you can!

When I worked for a distributor we refurbished pump stands in a SS with a closed auto bay. We were asked to remove the cashier, which was a Hamilton from the 70's, it was an empty cabinet with no faceplate or buttons in front of an empty bay with closed doors. I found some $300 in bills and...

    Biz Opp…!

I get approached all the time. I've had experience with them, all bad. First guy was supposed to keep the wash clean and were only supposed to use one bay at a time, they pay to wash and minimal hand washing/NO detailing in the bay. Not only did they not keep the place clean, they'd leave a...

    Motor Starters

So this is for your self serve bays? Any reason why they need to be 18 amps?

    Motor Starters

Does it need to be the type with the heater strips? Can you switch to a modern version with a thermal overload?

Not "if." Have you seen how often people are getting on freeways driving the wrong way?

Can't believe this stupidity... Yes you can!

I've had people move the cones to use an auto bay, I've had people walk up to the coned-off paystation and pay for a wash then stand there waiting for the machine to come out and wash their car (Happened twice, both times elderly people), I know of at least four machines that were destroyed by...

Can't believe this stupidity... Yes you can!

I've seen even dumber, still wish I'd called police because the kid must have been drunk. He straddled the treadle plate and when I looked the arm was over his hood with the end on his windshield. He asked me why it didn't start. He would have tried to back out if I hadn't been there which...

    Issues with a new SecureCoin

One of the washes I look after has Microcoins in everything, and they are completely trouble-free as far as jams. I replaced one about a year ago because the Val board was so hot it burned the attendant, and it was still working. They are all the same age and were installed around 2005. I put...

    Issues with a new SecureCoin

Now I'm having trouble with the other new unit rejecting coins. When I got to the wash last night it was rejecting everything, I checked it for a jam but there was nothing, and the display and settings were all normal. After I tried it a few times it started taking coins but it kept rejecting...

    Advice on 5 Bay Purchase

That is changing. I get as many as 1500 people in a month getting directions to my wash from a Google search of "car wash near me."

    Bay power cycling

I've seen this issue, but the only time it was ever a problem was when the incoming high voltage was 208V but the transformers were for 240V. My wash has the farthest bay with the wire run at about 100' and the low voltage wire is 22 gauge. No relays, everything has worked fine for 22 years.

    Advice on 5 Bay Purchase

There's not even room or a place for customers to pull through and turn around. The only hope would have been that open bay for trucks that tend to spend a lot, but they won't use it because they'll have to back out onto that road. No safe egress other than crossing a highway, poor traffic...

    Advice on 5 Bay Purchase

Either will do, single phase is more maintenance but that maintenance isn't very difficult. I meant you might have to upgrade the service because of the amperage draw, although that probably isn't necessary since the high-pressure pump motor and the dryer won't be running at the same time...
