Mortons Clean and Protect Softener Salt

We've heard this complaint about Morton's pellets many many times from all sorts of softener users for years. This is a good reminder to clean out your brine tank at least once a year. If you've never done that, you'll be shocked at the amount of gray/tan crud in the bottom. Russ

Help with Carolina Pride RO unit

May be a stuck feedwater solenoid on the RO sending 1 gpm of concentrate to drain. Carbon fines may have loaded up the solenoid valve such that it's not closing all the way.

    Foam Brush

We're seeing the need for it with the salt from the big box stores most people use. Because it's something people can do themselves there's little or no cost and it's good practice. Your experience may be different.

    Foam Brush

A couple of other maintenance items: *assure your salt level stays above the water level in your brine tank (this is one of the most common problems we see on softener maintenance calls) *disconnect and hose out the gunk in the bottom of your brine tank once a year. Russ

    RO Blue Filter

The micron rating refers to the size of the "holes" in the filter and thereby the size of the sediment that will pass through. A micron is a unit of measure - one millionth of a meter. So the lower the micron rating, the smaller the sediment the filter will capture.

Help with Carolina Pride RO unit

I assume you're referring to the permeate flow gauge reading 1 gpm rather than gpm? Was your carbon tank properly flushed after the new carbon was installed? Is the sediment filter on your RO before, or after the feedwater solenoid valve? Russ

    R.O. help

If the caps on your RO membrane housing(s) are leaking - you need to at least lube, or replace the orings on the cap. Changing the membrane won't address the leak. Russ

    When to replace RO membranes?

Yes - test the TDS of the RO water BEFORE it reaches any storage tank. Install a sampling port, or easier yet, install an inline TDS meter. When should you replace an RO membrane? Use a TDS meter to measure, record, and track the TDS in at least two places: 1) RO feedwater, and 2) after the RO...

This is a new one for me!

The good thing is that the fix is not terribly difficult or expensive. I've not seen this happen before in my 25 years in the water treatment business. Those tanks, at least the tanks made in the USA have good warranties (e.g., 5 years). Check about shin high on that tank for a sticker...

    RO System

Yes - that replumbing can be done, obviously, but in our experience many are not interested in doing that, for several reasons. It's like saying a gas gauge is not necessary in a car. Technically that's true, but if you want to optimize the life span of the RO membrane(s) you don't want to go...

    RO System

Reject water recycling is doable if: your RO system is plumbed for it your RO system has a reject water flow gauge you've done a water quality lab analysis of your water, and run the results through modeling software to make sure you don't recycle too much. Why would you want to recycle some...

    Reverse Osmosis Reject Water.

Carbon filters "backwash," softeners and certain other filters "regenerate." One or two steps in the multiple-step softener regeneration process are backwashing. The backwash water from the carbon tank will contain carbon fines and captured particulates (typically 20 micron and larger). As...

    RO membrane filter

Guys - If you do some homework re the RO membranes, pay attention to the pressure spec of the particular membrane you're looking at. For instance: https://www.buckeyehydro.com/4-diamter-ro-membranes/ "Low Energy" membranes are available - and practically speaking you can think of them as "Low...

Sure - https://www.clackcorp.com/control-valves-fittings-accessories/ here's the pdf re the valves: https://www.clackcorp.com/downloads/2721_CVFA_DOMESTIC.pdf For a 1 cuft, 0948 backwashing CGAC tank you'd want the three-button WS1 FYI - Clack will not sell to you directly. Russ

    How do I open these?

This is the way we do it - by inserting a threaded nipple into the center port. Best not to pry it. Russ
