    Counting Cars

If he's trying to determine how much people spend per car cash vs credit, that's how. Counting cycles is useless because so many people let the time run out and restart. When I was counting, I had a couple people either use the max amount or stop and reswipe to bucket wash. I've also seen...

So Ya think you want to be in the Car Wash business

I once found an abandoned car at the back of the wash, keys in the ignition, radio ripped out, obviously stolen, ransacked, and abandoned. I called the police and the cop who showed up said they couldn't do anything because it wasn't reported stolen. I asked him if I drove it out into the...

    Advice on bay height restriction

I'm working with a wash right now with a major mess problem from trucks and food carts, and I need to put up height restriction pipes. Anyone have to do this and have the ideal height to keep out these vehicles and still allow all others like high-roof vans? I'd like to include RVs, but they...

    Truck/RV/Boat Self Serve

I wouldn't expect much revenue from RVs. They're almost all retirees on a fixed income. I know this from years of doing state safety inspections. I would inspect one probably every two weeks, and there would usually be a running light not working. I would only charge $1.50 to replace the...

Replace Jim Coleman keypad with Rotary Knob?

What is the air solenoid for? I have built washes with a common air solenoid for tire cleaner and presoak, and it just connects to the second layer jumpered to those positions just like the motor starter.

Will an electric water heater keep up with demand for rinse?

I think he's only concerned with flow, which I think would be fine as long as the water pressure is good. My main water tank is fed from a 1" line through a six foot stainless wrapped water heater hose, which is less than 1/2" ID, and with all six bays running it stays full. As long as the...

So Ya think you want to be in the Car Wash business

Hopefully he's not such an idiot that he wouldn't find you as the owner of the property via public tax records and go driving by your house looking for his stolen boat.

Looking for a replacement faceplate for bay box

You may have to replace the entire box to get an acceptor with a coin return in there. There's a short drop unit that might work, but you'll probably have to move the coin acceptor to the left side and the timer to the right. At $3.50 startup, you should be taking credit cards anyway.

No pressure on rinse or wax

The o-ring may be missing from the screw. Who changed out the solenoids for the ones with the adjustment?

Replace Jim Coleman keypad with Rotary Knob?

No, those are to communicate with an accounting system or to turn on a "Bay in use" light inside. Earlier you mentioned a horn mounting bracket missing from your new doors. I've always used a zip-tie with the mounting ring on the end around the horn, with the ring on one of the top coin...

    First Semi-urgent problem!

Are you running hot water? If not, you can eliminate those solenoids.

No pressure on rinse or wax

They aren't for adjusting the soap and wax, unless someone has replaced the solenoids.

No pressure on rinse or wax

You shouldn't see air in the tubing lines. That's the air getting in and making the pump lose pressure and run rough. I don't know what "2 screws on solenoid" means.

Replace Jim Coleman keypad with Rotary Knob?

Motor starter is one wire that needs to connect at the 2x layer for every position you want high pressure. If soap is at 23, rinse is at 25, high pressure wax is at 26, all three are just jumpered together with the final wire going to motor starter on the barrier strip. Power for the second...

How do you see the future of self serve wash business?

I haven't had a vacation since 1992. This can be pretty much whatever you want it to be. To expand on some of Wash4Life said, you can hire an attendant or attendants to do the day-to-day stuff, and if you're lucky to find someone you can trust to handle the money you can potentially be almost...

theft device used on Hamilton changers

How does the controller pay out larger bills? Does it receive five or ten or twenty $1 pulse credits and just stack and send them all?

How do you see the future of self serve wash business?

This brings up an important con of this business. Unless you have VERY reliable help, say goodbye to vacations of more than a couple days.

    Drying quarters

The 50 watt one gets freakin' hot. The one you linked doesn't say anything about being regulated. It's made to be outdoors in zero degree weather stuck to something large and heavy in a poorly insulated engine compartment. I'm not saying it won't work, but I'd bet it will get at least hot...
