Useful Information From Our ShurVend Database

We got curious about what vendor models had been selected and purchased over the years, so we did a search on our database to see what we could learn. We have kept a detailed database of all the vendors we have sold since we started in 1999 where we record the model, the style of security, bill...

    2010 in retrospect

    • We used the C-Store vendor request to design a small, Hi-Security, free standing machine to adjust our thinking to build a simple, easy to operate vendor that met the demands of the C-Store market. From this simple beginning two more models of this vendor style morphed into the White...

    2010 in retrospect

I am happy to report that 2010 was a better than last year for ShurVend. The continuing “sluggish economy seeking lower price points” focuses our attention on adjusting and making changes to meet the market. Everyone has been and are operating very “lean” these days, so we have to work very...

Is there a case for a “solar powdered” vendor???

This new small vendor consumes about 35-40 watts when powering a bill validator, coin changer, POS module, LED light, and an Edge credit card system. When plugged into the “grid” (commercial power) this wattage is a comparatively low power use. When one looks at solar power, 35-40 watts is not...

Is there a case for a “solar powdered” vendor???

My recent post about using solar power in an RV application got me to thinking about our new small vendor that we recommend being installed in the vacuum area of a wash. WHY EXPENSIVE SOLAR POWER to power the vendor?? There are 1000’s of operating washes in this country that have max-ed out...

    Solar Education Needed!!

cfcw, I am still learning, but your numbers and my numbers are pretty close. Whether I go 24 vdc or 12 vdc has not been determined yet, but ampere-hours surely will come into play. I'll let all of you know how it comes out. Thanks to all of you for your input and knowledge. Uncle Sam :)

    Solar Education Needed!!

Bill, I think you confuse a solar panel with a solar cell. The cells are 6-inches square with 2 tabs (one positive and one negative) to tie cells in series. The panel I am using contains 36 of the 6-inch cells connected in series to add up to 18vdc. Each cell is rated at approx 4 watts @ 0.5...

    Solar Education Needed!!

Solar update Thanks for all the input on this use of solar to operate my load. There are many conflicting ideas about solar charging of batteries which is still somewhat confusing to me. I am limited in the size of the panel I can use, so I have to get the highest cell output I can. Right...

New high security 18-selection vendor update

We added some graphics and tweaked the operating system a little before taking the vendor on its maiden voyage to a real car wash operator in California to get some feedback and suggestions on our design. Please see the latest pix of this vendor in the Photo Gallery...

    Solar Education Needed!!

Thanks for all the responses---- I think I am beginning to get a handle on the most efficient way to use the latest in solar tech. I read the blog that Seattle mentioned in his post; Handy Bob is another engineer who does not mince words. He did not have many good things to say about the...

    Solar Education Needed!!

I have tried to study and understand sizing solar panels that are designed for RV use. I have a load that I want in my RV that uses 23 watts on a continuing 24/7 basis. It is winter time and the solar panels can only charge the battery and run the device about 8 hours per day. The device runs...

    Keypad light?

Eric H, You are correct; the control board is supplied with 24 VAC. The converter from 24 VAC to 12 VDC would work great. Then it is just a matter of finding the right LED light combination to do the keypad. You guys are sure smart!!!!! I learn new things every day! Uncle Sam :)

    Keypad light?

Eric H, Good lead on LEDs. But I think one needs 12 volt DC power and not 12 volt AC which you would get off a transformer. There may be a way to get 12 volt DC off the control board in the vendor. I will check. Uncle Sam :)

    Keypad light?

Wax & all, Just when I think I am getting a handle on the design of these vendors for the car wash environment, you guys come up with another good idea that no one thought about. Wax, most of the engineers that design and build any equipment are not the end users. It can work great in the...
