Poll: Overall, the pandemic _______________________ my self serve wash(es).

I put negatively. Maryland has us shut down for six weeks. Things have been since, but I don't believe it has to do with COVID. I believe it has to do with what has been a great weather pattern that has enabled pollen and salt to do their thing.

    Same ratio as you.

    New to the game

He says they are temperamental and that when he ordered parts to fix one of them, it took a month and his machine was closed the whole time. Personally, if I was him in that latter situation, I'd be hitting up every car wash owner and distributor to get it.

    New to the game

Anecdotally, I know a guy who put in some 360's and regrets having done so.

    I need your OPINION!

Another factor to consider is whether or not there are any free vacuum competitors in the area.

    Message Board

One car wash I drive by has, "Salt is not a car color."

    Masks

I read that some members of the CDC want Biden to stop wearing a mask outside.

friction or not to friction that is the question.

Something to consider is competition: where you rank among them and what they offer. If you're the number one guy in town, it makes no sense in my mind to switch from a friction model to a touch-free model unless you see things trending that way in your area. Our three car washes are touch-free...

Are there any positive people here?

I know what you mean. If I had a dime for every customer who said on a busy day, "I wish I was in this business," I wouldn't be in this business. I'd own a private island the size of Australia. Then there's the oversell aspect from the vendors in the industry. They make it sound like any car...

    Masks

Your post makes a lot of great points. Sadly, so many people think it can't happen to them and that if it does, they can go to a doctor for a pill or to a surgeon for surgery. The short-term situation point you made brings me back to the "two weeks to flatten the curve." If masks were going to...

    Masks

My big concern with masks centers around suppressed immune systems. Eventually masks are going to come off, and when they do, so many of the sheep you describe, Mac, are going to come down with sicknesses. Then that will be used as an excuse to push mask wearing more. Heck, I read an article - I...

    Chemicals for touch free IBA

Our supplier (Washtech/Harrell's) was sold to Sonny's. We were told they were not going to sell Advantage, the only Lustra chemical we used. We switched to Kleen Rite Track 2A and 2B, which is working well for us at a cheaper cost. We were then told we could buy Advantage again, but we'll stick...

If You Weren't in the Car Wash Business...

What would you be doing? I myself would have been a teacher. I have a teaching degree. What happened was the lure of the family business was too much for me to turn away.

Ideal equipment room length and width.

I've come to believe there is no such thing as a big enough equipment room. Whatever the size, it's going to get filled.

I own the land already. Looking for information on starting a car wash. I own a gas station next door to the property. Self serve, full service wash ?

Here's my take on self-service, full-service and express exteriors. Personally, I would not build a self-serve today. It's a slow dollar to build up on, and the costs are so high. I don't believe self-serve will become extinct. We live in a culture nowadays where people are going away from...

Feel like I'm held hostage by Google Reviews

Those are the ones that irritate me, too. Our car washes have a phone number posted up for people to call. We have an Internet presence. They spend more time on their review than on trying to find a solution.

Humble pie really doesn't taste that good

In Maryland, that would be a heat wave right now, LOL.

    $15 minimum wage?!!

It's so tone-deaf of the government to consider this during a pandemic. It's all to get the yokels excited. The yokels don't realize this pandemic is hastening automation as it is. A $15 minimum wage will accelerate that further.

    Switched to count up today

We have always done count up at our self-serve car washes, so I cannot do a vs. count down. However, I feel it's easier for the customer to understand that way.
