Hard Winter. Repairing Asphalt and/or concrete

After 8 years of having paving companies patch and repair my asphalt... “This stuff is going to last forever.” “Those last guys didn’t know what they were doing.” “Cold patches only last a few months.” “We’re the one’s you shoulda called first.” I called the contractor that did some work on a...

    JC Shampoo Compressor

bighead, Just to make you feel comfortable...mine has been working off of the e-room compressor for about a year. Only downside? Because I also eliminated the soap solenoid (I wired the pump to the brush's push button relay), it's absolutely silent until the customer presses the push button...

    Revamping my foam brush system.

One Flo-jet G57 will easily handle a 4-bay system. It's very rare that all 4 bays will be using FB at the same time. Regardless, my busy 8-bay uses one Flo-jet G57. A couple of 4-bay Kip solenoid blocks, a couple of mini air pressure regulators, a handful of push-to-connect fittings, 2 spools...

    disappoited adams combo machine quality

Maybe that's why Adams units are $500-$800 less than Fragramatics, IVS, Coleman, etc?

    Revamping my foam brush system.

It's using a motorized vane pump...on the left. The old school systems were powered with city water pressure. I converted many water pressure/dema injector systems to Flo-jet power in my day. What a pain in the posterior they were...way too many things to adjust...way too many things to fail...

    Revamping my foam brush system.

The foam generators are typically filled with loosely packed “ChoreBoy” plastic pot scrubbers…but, they are not entirely needed. Many systems simply use a tee with the air being fitted to the tee’s branch. Moving the solenoids above the booms will work but makes mechanical repairs more...

    Revamping my foam brush system.

The Air Logic design is simple, effective, and very reliable. My similar system has been in operation for nearly 20 years. The key to quick delivery to the bays is to make foam directly above the foam brush booms…in the freeze-protected plumbing trough. Each bay’s soap and air solenoid valve...

Different Winter - Summer SS Rates

My experience with my first three price changes: 1. think about price change 2. lose sleep over price change 3. worry about price change 4. fret over price change 5. lose more sleep over price change 6. examine expenses in an attempt to justify price change 7. do some year-to-year comparisons in...

    Sizing submersible pump.

Why use a pump? If the 2 storage tanks are at the same elevation, a 3/4” pipe connected to the bottom outlets will fill and draw from them equally. Install your high and low level switches in the tank nearest the RO machine and you’ll eliminate the additional control wiring to the 2nd tank.

    HP hose ends deteriorating

I’ve seen this before. Water seeps past the hose end’s barb and outer shell allowing water to come in contact with the hose’s braid. All due to loose crimping with incompatible hose/fitting combination and/or incorrect die used when assembling the hose. Synflex ends are not truly compatible...

Competitor dropped his price to 50 cents.

At 50c/4minutes I would need 40,000 customers just to pay my property taxes! That's 3,333 four minute cycles per month. The best way to make a small fortune at 50c/4minutes is to start with a very large fortune. Your competitor is well on his way down the death spiral.

    KR foam brush assembly

My method is to measure from the boom outlet to the bay floor and add 3'. That seems to work well for most customers. The hose does touch the floor when the brush assembly is stored. I use 1/4" 100-R1 hose with SW-504A swivels on both ends. Long lasting, quick foam delivery (making foam...

What tip do you prefer on gun in self serve bay?

I like 4007 at 1200psi... They deliver almost 4gpm to the customers (who never complain about it) and the 40 degree pattern speeds up bay floor cleanup for me.

Just when I was wondering what I was gonna do yesterday…

So many problems, I had to get up at 4:00 just to get a head start. Ha! It's in the 60s for the next week but we still have snow and ice on the fairways. First customer of the day showed up at 5:07a. Gonna be running "balls out" for the next few days!?!

Just when I was wondering what I was gonna do yesterday…

…the new Grainger catalog showed up in the mail. Some random thoughts after spending four hours flipping through the Grainger catalog pages: I'll bet the postman is glad that I’m the only one on his route that gets the Grainger catalog. The Grainger catalog is now three times larger than the...

    Burping a Raypak Boiler

I doubt it's an air pocket...those pumps move a lot of water. Maybe it's an eroded impeller...no so unusual with those Raypaks. You might also try straightening the flow switch. I once found a titration bottle stuck in the volute. It had fall into the open tank and got sucked into the boiler...
