There's no reason to leave rinse unsoftened. What little you might save in salt you'll pay for in maintenance and having to clean the bay walls.

Same thing happened to my cousin except it didn't burn the wash down, just melted the PVC pipe with the lines in it for the bays.

There are companies that make the heavy foam that's coated in thick vinyl in several colors that would look better than plain pipe insulation. At least a couple touchless manufacturers use it.

Exactly what kind of help are you looking for? It just needs power and a hole. You buy a box or replacement door and run two wires to it for power and a wire to the timer. Start looking locally for a car wash equipment company and if there's no one local keep expanding the area.

The ones who trash my bays the worst don't spend much more than the start-up. Every time I've raised prices, messes have gone down. The most dramatic was many years ago when I went from 50¢ to 75¢, and the only guy who complained was one that a week before I watched from across the street...

I don't know what your city/state requires. I was never licensed and did it anyway. Only certain things need permits and inspection like an ASME certified pressure vessel or repair/maintenance on a backflow preventer. Replacing a component like a regular storage tank doesn't even get noticed...

$6000 to install a $1200 tank is an absolute ripoff. I've changed out dozens of those, and it usually takes two or three hours. If they're wanting $3k for the tank, they're getting $1k an hour.

There are 2" Shark Bite fittings, but there are also 2" Press-Fit fittings that are a LOT cheaper. You can rent the Press-Fit tool from Home Depot for around $50 a day, which is about the cost of one 2" Shark Bite coupling.

When you re-lock them, are you spinning the dial at least four times in one direction? I've had two different people tell me they were just turning it 1/4 turn to the left to lock it, both have had their washes for over 30 years, and someone came through and opened it without the combination.

I had that happen to one recently, never got the key out, lock would open and close easily.

I've seen the claws with holes. Makes no sense to me, give them the best suction you can then cut it down an inch from where they need it and increase your electric bill at the same time. Grooves at the claw edge improve airflow where the dirt is.
