The V seal on the membrane is to keep the flow from going around the membrane. If you happen to pull it out and don't notice which way it was oriented, it goes on the end that the pressure from the pump comes in.

I had the Husky version of that at another wash, a 6 SS/1 IBA, as a backup compressor. For reasons it ended up being in service for about two years and never had an issue. It's still the least expensive compressor that's rated continuous duty.
