Here we go again. More frigid weather in the NE.

Opened the touchfree today at 11 degrees. Overhead door on exit side was frozen and tore the sheet metal screws out of the angle iron that the 'J" hook attaches to to open door. Re-engineered with SS carriage bolts/lock washers/locking nuts and opened the bay. No choice; customers want to wash.

    Fluidfilm

I bought a 5 gallon pail. It can be applied with a brush or in a pressurized sprayer. The stuff is great and very useful at the carwash!

Got a call from TSYS. They say they are a 'vital' cc processor for Hamilton equipment. Say they can save $ on cc processing. Anyone have experiences to share regarding this company? Thanks

How do you value your carwash?

I would add the value of land and buildings and factor in an income figure and then also use a multiplier for potential growth. We have 3 sources of revenue, so carwash, detail and used car sales would all be included in the income aspect of sales price.

Blow down blowing back up into presoak tank.

My thoughts are: are nozzles restricted? if so fix. Is there a pressure regulator for blowdown air? If so you could turn blowdown pressure down a bit. 8 check valves seem like alot. Check valves can fail, though so you may look at those too.

    Fluidfilm

I have begun treating my exposed metal in the carwash with a product called fluidfilm. http://www.fluid-film.com/ I use it on beams, door springs, shafts, angle iron , hose fittings etc. Pretty good stuff. I slap it on with a paintbrush. Smells like the business end of a sheep, but seems to...

Laser 4000 keeps hitting rear of car!

Look at your wiring schematic and see if there is a relay that corresponds to the input from your prox in question. My machine (defferent make) has small chiclet relays for certain functions and after awhile they have gone bad. Simple enough to swap out for known good part. Gotta be something...

    Updating old wash (credit/debit)

Remember: easier for the customer is always better. Getting them to walk to the token dispenser is one more thing for them to do. It's much easier for customer to swipe in the bay, wash and press stop. You'll benefit in the short and long term this way.

Specialty revolution and the entrance door

on my touchfree, there are Chiclet relays for functions like 'door close'. it's a simple thing to check if you can find such a relay in your wiring schematic. I've had these Chiclet relays stick one way or another and cause problems. usually, both doors will be on the same temp sensor, so if...

    Building a pit for automatic.

the best pit design I have seen is a concrete rectangular (3' x 5' ish) pit with a recessed (1" or so) plate steel cover. then 3 short pipe sections are welded to 3 centered holes where water drains into pit. this keeps sand on top (mostly). 2 handles on cover, one on each end are used to lift...

    @#$% Winter...

this is the carwash biz. if you compare the potential revenue loss to a slip/fall or icing up a big hp pump etc, it makes sense to err on the side of caution. besides, aren't there always plenty of projects that can get done while in shutdown mode? for us it was installing a rubber berm in...

Minus 10 degrees next week. What do you do?

    Merry Christmas....maybe

I wish the best in health and happiness for you! Remember to laugh, as laughter is the body's medecine against ailments. I am not being glib; watch your favorite comedians and laugh as much as you can.

    Vector Super Heater

Wouldn't a grand get you close to the cost of a small instant hot water heater powered by gas? Then you could use that to heat your presoak. Just saying, $1000+ for a heating element is way too much. Maybe possible to use a smaller size; as long as the thread size is correct and the voltage...

    Gift Cards

Gift cards for detailing has been a big part of the company's 4th quarter sales revenue for many years. This has held fairly steady year over year depending upon timing of Christmas (day of the week), weather and our open house sales, both pre holiday and mid-December. Have you done anything...

Cryptopay for Goldline Cashier; is it time?

Positives I see to Cryptopay CC on Goldline: 1. Batches faster than thru phone line. 2. spare swipers same as SS bay ones. (?) 3. save $ getting rid of phone line. Negatives 1. it's a $1200 upgrade 2. waxman is cheap 3. did i mention the price? 4. does handled controller still...

    Keep your branding!

Our company developed its branding over the years. We chose a mascot, logo and colors and name. Over the years we have struggled somewhat with sign makers, business card suppliers, newspaper ad folks, and marketers. Often the 'experts' want to change our colors, revamp our message and even...

    reconsidering nylon FB heads

Yeah Galen chastised me years ago for using nylon. But FWIW, he's making fine wines now, so draw your own conclusion ( I KID!). I have a boars hair brush in 1 bay and nylon in the other. Nylon outlasts boarshair 2 to 1 and cleans the car better. Not 1 scratch complaint w/nylon. I'm done...
