    ICA Show Review

I saw Rykos new low cost version of a touchless IBA. $52,995 installed. Not a bad price but it is not a radius by any means. I also saw several other mfg. had low cost IBA. Carolina Pride had the best token vendor for ACWS wanting to add free vacs IMO. The roundtable meetings went well but...

Forum Party and the ICA show

For those who are attending the ICA show Etowah Valley will be hosting a round table education session on Tuesday morning. Various topics will be covered from car wash electronics to credit cards. I think Bill P is hosting one session. ICA has not published this very much so get the word out to...

Replaced 2" Meter with 1" Meter

I tell everyone who gets a new meter to have it certified before it is put in. I had a brand new put in by the city once that read 3X as much water as was actually being used. Not uncommon. I understand that older meters tend to under read the actual water used because of wear on the rotating...

    New Tandem Bay opens today

Get a camara system from Sam's or Costco for under $1000. Just having a couple of camaras visible to the public will stop most of the fictious claims. A sign that says not responsible for aftermarket products, remove trailer hitches willl cover most of what you will see for claims. If the...

    Are FLOJET pumps terrible?

Which flojet pump are you using? I have had very few problems with the G57 compared to the smaller flojets. Flojets need dry air and if you have moisture in your air feeding the pumps they will not work well.

    $1.00 to start?

Lets look at your propasal from a cost stand point. A few years ago the ICA did a study on SS carwashing. If I recall correctly for those washes that were at .50 cents per minute averaged a variable cost of 30%. This took into account soaps, taxes, etc. but did not include debt service. At your...

    strange motor issue

Sometimes a european motor runs on a different Hertz cycle. Check to see if it is set to run on the american setup otherwise you will need a VF drive.

Is the ICA squeezing its members?

Mac, I think the key is the number of attendees. I go to the SEMA almost every year. The cost to get in there is minimal. But they have 75,000 to 100,000 attendees every year so sponsors are willing to pay more for that exposure. Most carwash shows have seen attendance drop by 50% in the last 5...

Is the ICA squeezing its members?

I have in the past been privy to some of the inner workings of organizing large conferences like the ICA car wash show. From the outside it is hard to understand the incredible costs associated with one of these conventions. In Vegas the unions are pretty strong and everything carries a great...

Cars, Car wahses and the internet

The AP had a interesting article about car driving habits in the local paper. In 1983, 69% of 17 year olds had a drivers license and by 2008 it had dropped to only 50% who had a drivers license. The article goes on to state that the internet is replacing face to face contacts. Social networking...

Purchasing Used car wash vs building from ground up

In this economy my advise is to look for a owner who is willing to fianance the purchase over time. It will require less down payment by you and also has the advantage of letting the owner make a sale that would be difficult in this market. The owner would hold the title to the property until...

What are you paying for pit cleaning?

I can honestly say that my ringomatic is one of the easy peices of equipment to service that I own. Mine has a old drip system for the bearings on the pump. All I do is make sure a slow drip of oil is fed the bearings while it is running with a simple screw adjustment. Add gas and oil every...

What are you paying for pit cleaning?

Vacuum type pit cleaner. If you have a small tractor Gator has the best setup of anyone. A small dump trailer and a modified front scoop bucket that goes on the front of his tractor.

Old equipment in a computer world

Carwash operators must be a different breed of people compared to most in the world today. We buy our new equipment with the hopes that it will last a long time with a low service cost. Most of our equipment is similar in nature with the exception of the electronic controls that are the brains...

What are you paying for pit cleaning?

I bought a used 1970 ringomatic in 1994 for $5000. I have replaced the gas briggs and straton motor with a Honda ($600). Replaced the vains in the pump once ($200). I have 4 locations and 20 pits total that we pump at least every 2 months. I have my own property to dump the mud on. When I get a...

    Ryko OHD Arm measurement issue

Usually unless the drive belt has caught on something and the drive wheel spun on the belt the belt will be OK. If you do have a flat spot on the belt it will need to be replaced and probably the drive gear. Check with Astromatic for both the gear and drive belts. I think they are a bit cheaper...

    Ryko OHD Arm measurement issue

Sounds to me like the drive belt might be slipping a little causing the arm not to travel as far as it should during the trolley run time. Check that the trolley drive belt is tight. Also check the teeth on the drive gear and idler gear to see that they are not worn to a sharp point, When the...

Car Wash Show to Chicago in 2014.

I am glad to see it leave Vegas once in a while. When the ICA decided to stay in Vegas for an extended time it was unfair to the WCA and their trade show. If the ICA decided that they would have their trade show in Texas every year the SWCWA would see a huge drop in their trade show attendance...
