    More quarters or more cash?

Not for me. If I didn't have tokens mixed in with the quarters, I'd be losing $500 in quarters each week. The four other washes I'm involved with are quarter only and they all have a nominal surplus.

    Coin box for Air dispenser

I've done several air vendors with those. That's the cheapest thing you're going to find unless you come across a used one. You can get it without the timer window so you can use a less expensive timer.

pex plastic tubing for carwash use

I've been getting the 3/8" Freelin-Wade through Burns Controls for 43¢/ft. The shipping is really high, but it's still under 50¢/ft. total. You may have to contact Freelin-Wade to find your closest distributor.

    Blow down or weep?

Yeah, but you guys are used to the cold. We avoid going outside if it's below 40°.

    Blow down or weep?

If I were to purge the lines and shut down the bays only a few times a year, I would take a length of PVC, cap the bottom and put a tubing outlet on the bottom, fill it with maybe a half gallon of antifreeze, cap the top with another tubing fitting for air and just turn the air on until...

Freeze Stat / Trough Heat Stat

I haven't been able to find one new, but a lot of older washes around here have the Honeywell thermostat with an internal sensing coil. I don't know if they're rated for outdoors, but I see them mounted outdoors out of direct rain, 20 to 40 years old and still working and accurate. The best...

pex plastic tubing for carwash use

Any tubing should work as long as it's rated for the pressure you're using it for, and it's protected from any sunlight, or it specifies UV resistance. Most black tubing will resist UV. I use Nylon N11 from Freelin-Wade. 1/4" is rated at 600 PSI (2400 burst), 3/8" is rated to 250 working...

    Dollar coin shortage?

No, but I can tell you they're very sensitive. I switched manufacturers of tokens but it was supposed to be the same mix. Learning just the new ones it would reject the old. Bimetal tokens should be better. They're still a lot less than $1 apiece. I find some bimetal tokens on the ground...

    Blow down or weep?

I just shut down my wash and four others I look after. Normally we all stay open and weep water, but it's been cold and windy here for 36 hours and don't want to risk ice on the floors and the obvious liabilities, so I just blew all the lines out and shut them down. The workers have...

    Air dryers

If you're using air tools, like a pneumatic die grinder or impact wrench. FloJets do not like oil.

    Dollar coin shortage?

Last I checked, my bank could get dollar coins but they have to order them in. What coin acceptors are you using? The "best" token would be something limited to your area, but if you're using Slugbuster III you might not get a bimetal token to work.

    Hourly Rate...

Depends. I used to work for a distributor and left in 2003. I did a lot of work for former customers who called me direct - the ones I didn't know well I charged $40/hr. and I set up a LLC and sales tax permit, all by the books. Some that I'd gotten to be friends with I'd do for $20/hr. cash...

    Soap and Wax Plumbing

My tanks are the same height, but the liquid levels in them are not. The soap and wax are about 15" lower than the top of the water level because of the Hydrominder. I had to take the check valve for the water supply out on one pump when it failed closed, and I had to throttle the ball valve...

Old can vacs connected for more suction power?

I don't think you'll get any more air flow with one 1-1/2" hose. I'd add a third motor and switch to 2" hose. It might even be worth a try to run two 1-1/2" hoses off one 3-motor vacuum.

Splash n dash or regular self serve set up?

I look after a wash with the same pumps and tank. It's certainly no fun to work on anything, but it's solid. It originally had 6-position switches with pushbuttons to start and stop the pump.

    Heated Water for IBA

There's usually an immersion heater in them, or at least a port for one. I would add one to keep it hot rather than try to pump water back into the heated water. The tank is pretty small, and the water will get heated pretty quick from the incoming water. I wouldn't be too concerned about it.

    Tripping relay in super saver

If you find the exact replacement and install it and it still doesn't work, don't freak out, just flip the float around. It's either close on rise or open on rise depending on which way you have the float.

    Micro Coin QL rejecting tokens

The Microcoin QL is very sensitive. I switched manufacturers of tokens, and even though my old and new ones are supposed to be the same, the acceptor wouldn't take the old ones by learning the new ones.
